Indoor Play And Fun At Odyssey 1

December 12, 2017 by Maegen Blue

Hey, Tacoma, Do you need a fun place to take the kids for indoor play on a rainy day? We’re thrilled to have one of our family’s favorite places joining our sponsorship team this month.

Odyssey 1 is one of our family’s favorite rainy day destinations because it has safe, indoor fun for all ages! It’s a great place to take the kids on a dreary day and a perfect place for parties, too!

If you have younger kids, you’ll love the jungle gym and soft play areas. Your kiddos can play all afternoon in here (easy nap time guaranteed)! I was a regular here when my boys were smaller, and I loved that it is a dedicated space with its own entrance.

Tip: Go on a weekday mid morning with a friend. It’s usually quiet, and you can do a little catching up while the kids play.

Now that my boys are a little older they’re big fans of the laser tag arena and the arcade, which has modern and old-school games that the whole family will love (Skee Ball, anyone)? This is one of my kids’ favorite destinations with their pals when they have those odd days off school or half days, and I know we’ll hit it at least once this coming break.

Odyssey 1 also does great birthdays. You get your own room and can choose from a variety of packages that make your life easy. We LOVE a party where we can just show up and have fun!

Odyssey 1 is located at 2310 W. Mildred Street Suite #110 in Tacoma, making it a great destination for those of you in Tacoma, Fircrest, University Place, and Lakewood, and just a quick trip for those of you elsewhere. Oh, and their prices are very reasonable, so you can take your whole crew!

Odyssey 1 is open 7 days a week! You can check out their hours here to plan your next playdate. They also offer online booking for your parties, and they’d be glad to talk to you about hosting your daycare or school group! You can also like them on Facebook for regular updates and special offers!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. The opinions are my own. As always, we’re grateful when you mention the site to the businesses you visit! PS Keep an eye on our Facebook page for an exciting giveaway from Odyssey 1 coming soon!

Did you know that Seattle Children’s has opened a clinic in Federal Way? It’s in the same shopping center as Costco and Hobby Lobby! If your child has ever needed to see a pediatric specialist, Children’s is top notch when it comes to medical care. The Federal Way clinic will have providers at the clinic that cover 15 specialties. ZOOmers, The Animals You Can Ride At The Mall!

May 8, 2014 by Maegen Blue

Update 3/2017: Customer service at the mall says Zoomers closed down. Sad face.

Update from SFM-Reader Jennifer left a comment that as of 5/22, these fun, ride-on animals are back at the South Hill Mall in Puyallup. They were definitely gone for a while, and their fb page hasn’t been updated since 2014, so I don’t know if they’ve returned to other locations, or if this is a different group, or…….We’ll try to find out more for  you. If you get there before we do, and you have a chance to get some scoop, let us know! 5/25/2016

We give one of Henry’s pals a ride to school twice a week.  A lot of the time they get into these hilarious, “Top this,” style conversations. So, when she started telling us about how she had been Riding a Stuffed Animal around the mall, I sort of thought maybe she was making it up.

Naturally, Henry was All About riding an animal around the mall, so even though I was a teensy bit skeptical, Saturday we headed off to check it out. And then, this happened….

Meet Xtreme Bounce of Fun!

December 19, 2013 by Maegen Blue

Update-This spot is permanently closed. We suggest visiting our friends at WiggleWorks at the South Hill Mall in Puyallup instead!

Have you been to South King County’s newest indoor playground?

Indoor Playground Auburn supermall-outlet collection

Xtreme Bounce of Fun is an indoor play area at the Outlet Collection in Auburn, and it’s a great place for both imaginative and active play, especially on days when the weather is cold and grey. I’ve already heard from several of you who have had a great time here, and the staff is busy adding even more fun in response to your feedback.

I think your little ones will love to swing on the candy striped rotating ball tree, climb on the rolling Earth, jump on the inflatable bouncer, and even bounce on the waterbed trampoline.

Extreme Bounce of Fun

Plus, when you take your kids to burn off steam, you’ll be supporting a local, veteran owned business.  Monteze Thomas Sr., served in Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and he and his wife have their own busy three year old (I’ve found that the best kid friendly businesses are always run by moms and dads)!

You should know that the team is dedicated to keeping it fun And safe, so the whole place is strictly for kiddos 48″ and under. They’re also serious about keeping it, “Sparkling clean.” Love that!

The Xtreme Bounce of Fun team also wanted to offer a special just for you! Just mention this post, and you can get 20% off your pop in play visit, or 17% off your birthday party booking.*

If you’re interested in the party, don’t wait long. This place is pretty much preschool perfect, and there just aren’t a lot of great spots for indoor parties for littles in this area (trust me-I know all of them)!

You’ll find Xxtreme Bounce of Fun inside the Outlet Collection (formally the Supermall) between Johnny Rockets and the carousel. They follow mall hours.

To book your party or get more information about their date nights or pop in play, you can like them on Facebook, or check out their website,or  give them a call at 253-333-2321, or just ask for details when you go in to play! Don’t forget to tell them you saw them on Sounds Fun Mom.

*New bookings only, please. Not to be combined with other offers.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post with a combination of my opinion and provided text. I LOVE it when you thank the businesses that support this site!

A Trip to Family Fun Center

June 20, 2013 by Maegen Blue

Disclosure: Links in this post are my affiliates.

Ooh, Ooh, Bullwinkle’s Family Fun Center is on Groupon today! I’ve got all the scoop on a Bullwinkle’s outing in this post. If you’d like to try it for half off yourself,  check out the deal here. If you’re a rookie, read on for my review and best tips!

My family used vouchers from a previous deal over Spring Break, and we had a great time. While it still wasn’t the most frugal of outings, it definitely made it more affordable. Here are some pics and tips from our outing!

Kidopolis

If you’ve never been here before,  it’s a little overwhelming at first. It’s multiple levels, and it’s noisy and bright-not an outing for a child with sensory issues.

The pricing is sort of like what you they do at the fair-you buy a card with a certain number of points, and it gets scanned at various attractions, each of which takes some number of points.

The best deal in the place, if you have little ones, is the climbing structure they call Kidopolis. It’s big, with some really cool obstacles, and the kids get in and out privileges. Plus, there is only one entry, and it’s gated and staffed (How awesome is that??)  If you have little ones who could stick just to this area, it’s not a bad deal at all (around 5.50, or even less if you did this deal). While I wouldn’t drive to Southcenter just for the Kidopolis, if you’re near by, or headed to the mall, it would be an affordable, preschool playdate.

Family Fun Center

If you’ve got bigger kids, they’re going to want to do some of the other attractions. Some of them are better deals than others. The laser tag, for example, was very short and cost a lot of points. I’d try to talk your kiddos into skipping that one. The slingshot thing is pretty darn cool, and the kids get a decent amount of time on it. I’d probably also skip the mini-golf (let’s face it-there are a lot of places to mini golf)! My oldest and his dad did the go-karts, and we all spent some time in the arcade. This deal gets you a 110 point card for 13.00, or half-off. That would be enough to do 4-5 attractions, depending on which you picked. You might want to get two (it says you can buy one for yourself and multiples as gifts, with a max of two per household).  You should probably plan on spending a little more in the arcade as well. One final tip-some attractions do have height restrictions. If you have kiddos on the smaller end, I’d check the website first, so they aren’t disappointed when you get there.

We went on an evening, and it didn’t seem crowded at all, though it may well be different in the summer months. The staff were almost all teenagers, but they were friendly, and it was very clean. There was an off-duty police officer near the door, which made me wonder if there is sometimes a livelier, teenage crowd, but I didn’t see any evidence of that on our visit.  I know lots of you are regulars at this spot, so feel free to weigh in with tips I missed.

Check the website for current info. And keep up with happenings by liking the Family Fun Center’s Facebook page!

Drop and Shop! South Sound Mall Play Areas

October 28, 2010 by Maegen Blue

On a rainy day, the soft play area at your neighborhood mall can look like an oasis. Just leave your credit cards at home if you want to keep this outing frugal!

Here’s a round up of area retail stores with play spaces.

Tacoma Mall-A “Kidgit,” themed play area near the food court

South Hill Mall-Noah’s ark themed soft play area near Old Country Buffet

Super Mall Auburn-Northwest themed soft play area  There is also a merry-go-round by the food court. My friend Brenda and I used to come here a lot. We’d let the kids play until  Henry tried to bite someone. Then we’d do the merry go round and end with a pretzel (after a little hand sanitizer). While the play area is often Swamped, the mall itself is never crowded and easier to navigate than the biggies. *There is a bunch of construction going on here-not sure of the status of the merry go round right now.

Federal Way Mall-I’ve actually never been to the play area here, but my old neighbor Joel used to take his beautiful daughter here from time to time, so I asked him for the scoop. Here’s what he had to say

It is a great distraction for a spouse to take their 2-5 year old while their significant other shops at Target or the mall. It is right outside the Target and is a large padded “train or tugboat” I can’t remember exactly… The only thing to look out for is the “older” kids jumping off of the structure and potentially landing on your little one. The “maintenance” guy enforces that the children wear socks and don’t bring or eat food in the play area. It is also nice because there are mirrors allowing you to see your kid on the other side of the play structure.    Thanks, Joel!

Southcenter-Recently remodeled play area. Wins kudos from me for being next to the new, family lounge areas. A boon for any parents looking for a place to feed babies…’um…organically.

Ikea-Ball pit for kids to play in while parents shop. Children must be potty trained (thank heaven)!

Fred Meyer-Supervised kids’ play area for use while parents shop. Yes, you must remain in the store, and no, this is not your date night solution. On the other hand, if your shopping list consists of a People magazine and a pumpkin latte, I won’t tell!

Cabelas-No play area but lots to look at. Your kids can feed the fish and stare at all kinds of huge, dead animals. There is also an old-fashioned shooting gallery.

Olympia-Westfield Capital Mall has an animal themed play area near JCPenney Reader Crystina says this mall has a lot to offer for the family. You can read her tips here.

While policies vary, I personally think the soft play areas are best for kids 5 and under. It’s very hard for bigger and larger kids not to knock over the smaller ones, and you really don’t want to be the mom of that kid. Please also watch your kids while they play. When I went to research this post the first thing I found was a bunch of articles from people ranting about pint size bullies roaming wild.

Know a good one I missed? Let me know!
