Many readers have been asking when area playgrounds will be open.
For most areas, including Tacoma, the playgrounds are still not open. Playgrounds run by the City of University Place and now, playgrounds in Orting, are the only two we know about that are open as of June 8th.
I don’t have an official link for you to the Orting information, but several readers have confirmed this, and I was able to get a pic. of their signage for you. Basically, it’s open, but they’re reminding you to use it at your own risk and be responsible. There are also plans for nightly sanitizing. It sounds much the same as what University Place is doing.
Here is a list of Orting parks and playgrounds. This signage was at Main Park, but I’m assuming it would apply to playground in other parks as well (let me know if you find out different).
As for playgrounds in other areas, I will keep you posted. Metro Parks Tacoma let me know that because of staffing reductions, their playgrounds are likely to remain closed beyond the state opening date. Pierce County is indicating Phase 3 for Pierce County Parks Dept. playgrounds (not all parks in Pierce County-just the ones that are actually part of Pierce County Parks Dept). As I find out about other playgrounds opening or staying closed, I will let you know!
As always, please recreate responsibly, and decide what choices are best for your family.
