It builds upon a student’s innate interest in gaming and computer technologies. Students will focus on core areas of computer programming in a self-paced, supportive environment. S.T.E.A.M. Saturdays at Mottet 2:30

Join Ms. Elizabeth for some hands on S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) programming. In these weekly hands on programs we will explore, build, and create fun and imaginative projects. All ages.

Build This! Youth Engineering Club at South Tacoma 4pm

building and engineering challenges once a month. Use ingenuity and the scientific method to solve problems. Make new friends. Recommended for 5th to 8th grade. Be prepared to register as a club member when you arrive.

Winter Coronation Ball  6PM at the STAR Center

Calling all Princes and Princesses to the Magical Coronation ball in Arondale. All family members are welcome; including Daddy’s & Daughters.
This enchanting evening will be filled with dancing, pictures, treats, and of course the coronation of all the princes and princesses.

Prices are per couple, as a parent/guardian is required to be with their child at all times. You can also add additional children at a reduced cost. Note from SFM: I believe you need to register and pay in advance, but I don’t know for sure. Many spots left as of this writing.

Free astronomy event hosted by the Tacoma Astronomical Society

Post presentation telescope viewing is weather dependent. Due to repairs in the Science Dome, presentations will be in the Olympic Building. The Tacoma Astronomical Society hosts free public viewing sessions each month at Pierce College near Fort Steilacoom. Indoor lectures, demonstrations, and workshops are available at public nights regardless of the weather. On nights with clear skies, TAS volunteers provide telescopic observations of the Moon, planets, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, double stars and more.  Free; donations welcomed.

The Peking Acrobats are at The Pantages at 3PM Note from SFM: While not exactly a bargain, this show is splurge worthy. One of the best things we’ve seen as a family! Seriously!

Peninsula Youth Orchestra Winter Concert 3-5PM PHS auditorium

Come enjoy the string orchestra student performers of Peninsula Youth Orchestra, a non-profit for kids 9-19 playing violin, viola, cello and bass! 4 levels of orchestra will be performing Jan 26th 3pm at Peninsula High School. Mini Maestros at UPS 

Mini Maestros is back! These are special concerts with Symphony Tacoma designed just for kids 2-8 and their families, and our readers have Loved them!  Kids will learn about different instruments and musical concepts while singing, dancing, marching, and clapping their hands with Symphony Tacoma musicians. There is also an, “Instrument petting zoo” one hour before the first three performances. How great is that?!  Today’s theme is, “Fiddler on the Hoof,” featuring the strings family and catchy western tunes you’ll recognize. Come dressed in your best western gear!

All concerts are held on Sundays at the University of Puget Sound’s Schneebeck Concert Hall at 2:30 pm, with the instrument petting zoo beginning at 1:30 pm. Tickets to individual concerts are $7 for children and $10 for adults, plus box office fees. Let’s start the new year with a bang! Come join us for at 7 Seas Brewery for a night full of shopping, music, food, beer, art, and community. This event is free and open to all ages!

Pier Into the Night with Harbor WildWatch

Take an underwater journey of Gig Harbor Bay without getting wet (or needing special certification) through the Pier Into the Night experience! While you stay warm and dry on the dock, our divers use an underwater video camera to live stream exactly what they encounter below the surface. Staff biologists and trained volunteers identify the plants and animals that appear on the 10 ft. screen.

This program takes place on Jerisich Public Dock in Downtown Gig Harbor on the first Saturday of the month from October-March and runs approximately an hour. This program is FREE* with no RSVP required. Look for the staff and volunteers in blue, and the blue Harbor WildWatch tent!

Pollinators are essential to all life around the world. Join Stream Team and guest speaker Mary Dessel as we look at the life history of bees, reasons for their decline, and how we can each do our part to help. You can even make a bee house to take home!
