Meet Catboy at Learning Express Toys of Renton 1-3PM
Family program, ages 4 to 10 with adult. Presented by Young Space Scholars.
Learn about our nearby planets, their atmospheres and how they impact each other. Fun, hands-on activities relate the basic principles that govern our solar system.
Space is limited. Free tickets available 30-minutes before performance time at the Information Desk on the day of the program.
Lifting Literacy event at the Maple Valley Library
Join the Maple Valley Library for games, snacks, prizes, free books, a story or two with Librarian Sharon and more. Drop in any time between 10:00 and noon with your family to enjoy the fun and talk to a reading specialist about your child’s particular needs. Story at 10:30am; Burke Museum on hand with the Dig Into Dinosaurs Exhibit! Hands on activities and fun.

Explore Your World 10:30am – 12:30pm at the Sumner Library Head over to the children’s area to build, create, or investigate something. Materials provided. Bring your imaginations. Drop-in anytime during the two hours. Everyone welcome.
at the Buckley Library Join for fun morning of crafting! Learn about the process of creating a rag rug and create your own to take home with you. All materials provided. 11am-1pm Note from SFM: It says, “All ages.” I’ll let you decide how your kiddos would do with this.
Molly of Denali Family and Community Learning Workshop – KBTC Series 11:30am – 2:00pm at the Fife Library Join KBTC and the Pierce County Library for the “Molly of Denali” Family and Community Learning workshop. This workshop series is meant for children ages 4-8 and their families. Lunch provided.

Bird Nest Box Building with Tahoma Audubon
-Build a Bird Box for FREE! Learn how to use tools, and why and how local birds use nest boxes.
-Join Tahoma Audubon and Tacoma Housing for the chance to learn wood working, using tools while providing a house for birds to nest -Stop by the James Center North Field office anytime between 12-3 pm. No experience needed, all materials and tools provided by Tacoma Tool Library; woodworkers on hand to help. Children welcome with adult supervision. Let them know they’re coming

Make Valentine Cards and Duct Tape pen roses. This monthly craft is aimed at 5th – 12th grade.
Have a Look at Coding (HAL) is for Kids and Teens and is an expanded version of the Digital Media Lab’s popular Kids Code Club. It builds upon a student’s innate interest in gaming and computer technologies. Students will focus on core areas of computer programming in a self-paced, supportive environment. Register for this one.
Join Ms. Elizabeth for some hands on S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) programming. In these weekly hands on programs we will explore, build, and create fun and imaginative projects. All ages.
building and engineering challenges once a month. Use ingenuity and the scientific method to solve problems. Make new friends. Recommended for 5th to 8th grade. Be prepared to register as a club member when you arrive.
Winter Coronation Ball 6PM at the STAR Center
Calling all Princes and Princesses to the Magical Coronation ball in Arondale. All family members are welcome; including Daddy’s & Daughters.
This enchanting evening will be filled with dancing, pictures, treats, and of course the coronation of all the princes and princesses.
Prices are per couple, as a parent/guardian is required to be with their child at all times. You can also add additional children at a reduced cost. Note from SFM: I believe you need to register and pay in advance, but I don’t know for sure. Many spots left as of this writing.
Children’s program at the Science Dome “Motions and Patterns.” Great, low cost option for kids. Educational and indoors.
Book-It Repertory Theatre – Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut 2:30pm – 3:15pm at the Lakewood Library Seattle’s Book-It Repertory Theatre brings to life the award-winning children’s book “Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut” by Derrick Barnes.
Friends of the University Place Library Book Sale 10:00am – 5:00pm
Free astronomy event hosted by the Tacoma Astronomical Society
Post presentation telescope viewing is weather dependent. Due to repairs in the Science Dome, presentations will be in the Olympic Building. The Tacoma Astronomical Society hosts free public viewing sessions each month at Pierce College near Fort Steilacoom. Indoor lectures, demonstrations, and workshops are available at public nights regardless of the weather. On nights with clear skies, TAS volunteers provide telescopic observations of the Moon, planets, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, double stars and more. Free; donations welcomed.

3D Lanterns Craft – Celebrate Chinese New Year! 1:00pm – 2:30pm at the Dupont Library
Learn how to cut and assemble a 3D red paper lantern. Chinese symbol templates will be available to decorate the lantern with black and gold Sharpies.
Family story time visits Browsers Books
Music, movement, books and activities for the whole family. All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult. Join TRL at Browsers Bookshop for a special storytime-on-the-road visiting our local booksellers. Take time to explore the bookshop before or after storytime.
Learn about Amphibians of the Northwest at the LOTT WET Science Center
Did you know there are twenty-six species of amphibians in Washington State? Where do all those salamanders, frogs, toads, and newts live? Learn about these amazing creatures and their role in our ecosystem with activities all day.

It is a live performance filled with big and small Lions dancing their way into our hearts. The show is free and will be taken place in the parking lot of North Shore Shopping Center.

The Peking Acrobats are at The Pantages at 3PM Note from SFM: While not exactly a bargain, this show is splurge worthy. One of the best things we’ve seen as a family! Seriously!

Peninsula Youth Orchestra Winter Concert 3-5PM PHS auditorium
Come enjoy the string orchestra student performers of Peninsula Youth Orchestra, a non-profit for kids 9-19 playing violin, viola, cello and bass! 4 levels of orchestra will be performing Jan 26th 3pm at Peninsula High School.
