South Sound Weekend Kids’ Calendar: Family Fun and Things to Do November 23rd and 24th

It’s a great weekend for family fun around the South Sound!

Don’t miss the Fantasy Lights walk (New this year-tickets are only available online, in advance!), Australian animals at your library, ballerinas, salmon spotting, and much more!

Saturday

All Over

Storytime at Barnes and Noble stores Most area stores do a free, weekly storytime at 11AM; however, we do suggest calling yours to confirm first, as we have found participation to be inconsistent. It’s a Frozen themed story today; there is also a Lego mini build with a Frozen theme at 2pm.

Crafts at Michael’s Clay pot, Bells,” or, “Reindeer antlers,” today. Click on, “Kids’ Club,” and then navigate to your store for details and registration. Mine had 8 spots left for 3.00.

South King County

Festival of Trees at the White River Valley Museum

Your new holiday tradition! Catch the spirit of the season with a festive display of trees at the Museum. Each tree is decorated by regional ethnic heritage groups with ornaments and décor that represent their cultural traditions. You will see trees as diverse as our community with traditions from China, Poland, Norway, Italy, Iran, the Marshall Islands and beyond! Ongoing event through January 5th.

Greater Pierce County

There is a Frozen 2 event at the Walmart in Bonney Lake. I suspect this is going on at other stores, but I haven’t been able to confirm. You may want to check with yours.

Animal Encounters – Australian Animals at the Milton/Edgewood Library 2pm Visit with unique creatures from Australia while you learn about their habitats, behavioral and physical adaptations, and more!

Something’s Happening Saturdays at the Graham Library

Something will be going on at the Graham Library all day on Saturday! Will it be games? Will it be crafts? Will it be building? Drop by and find out!

Animal Encounters – Australian Animals at the Sumner Library 10:30 Australia is home to some of the most unique animals on the planet. Come visit with a few of these creatures while you learn about their habitats, behavioral and physical adaptations, and more!

Stop in and see the reindeer at Watson’s 

North Pole at the Fair, Puyallup  Photos are all booked, but you can also go play at the pole without getting photos-tickets are just 5.00 for play without photos, and it’s such a great way to spend a rainy day! See the FAQ at the link for more on photos and what’s new this year.

Winter Wonderland event hosted by Changing Rein Graham

Smokey Mountain Christmas at the Thurston County Fairgrounds; looks like mostly a shopping event but crafts for kids and pictures with Father Christmas and Frozen Characters are advertised.

Ballerinas at the HOCM

Meet and greet ballerinas from Ballet Northwest’s Nutcracker.
Free with museum admission. Readers enjoyed this last year; it may be a good way to gauge your children’s interest in a longer Nutcracker.

Salmon tours at Donkey Creek Park

Join Harbor WildWatch for fun, engaging salmon walking tours!

Tours begin at Austin Estuary and end at Donkey Creek Park along the restored Donkey Creek. Learn all about salmon’s life cycle and their cultural and ecological significance while viewing spawning salmon. Perfect for all ages.

Meet in Austin Estuary Park near the picnic table, and look for the Harbor WildWatch biologist in blue. Dress for the weather, rain or shine! This event is FREE, but donations are welcomed.
