South Sound Weekend Kids Calendar: Family Fun and Things to Do August 16th, 17th, and 18th

There are so many things to do with the kids this weekend! No matter where you live around the South Sound there is something great going on!

Friday

Building Madness at the Gig Harbor Library 10:30am  Use Lego bricks, Straws & Connectors, blocks and more to construct fabulous contraptions.

Museum of Flight – Yes, It’s Rocket Science: Alka Rockets at the Key Center Library 11am-12 Learn the history and science of rocketry. Build and test your own Alka-Seltzer powered rockets. Ages 5-7.

Idea Hatch – Space Quest at the Tillicum Library 2-3pm Explore space! Create a planet and watch it orbit. Test real meteorites and peer into an infinity star box. Create clouds and lightning. Experience space in virtual reality and more!

Summer Stories and Crafts – at the Orting Valley Farmers Market Drop by to hear a story, make a craft and meet your local library staff! 3:30-4

Summer Bash at Stewart Heights

Pack your snacks, blankets and lawn chairs and head to the park for a free outdoor movie for the whole family! Activities begin at 6PM; How to Train Your Dragon on the big, inflatable screen at dusk

The Phantom Toll Booth at Olympia Family Theater

An all-youth performance where audiences accompany Milo on his adventures. All seats $12! Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend and next

2019 Summer Outdoor Movies in  Renton

Outdoor movies at four different locations.  All movies begin at dusk and for optimal viewing pleasure it is recommended to bring low-back chairs and blankets. Tonight is Incredibles 2   at Tiffany Park. Pre-show fun begins at 7:45

Movies off Main, Sumner At Heritage Park in Downtown Sumner

All movies begin at dusk (8 pm – ish). Concessions will be available. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy outdoor movies with neighbors in a magical setting. It’s Wonder tonight.

Tumwater’s Screen on the Green

Each August, Tumwater Parks and Recreation brings four crowd-pleasing movies to the outdoor cinema at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course. Movies are shown on the first four Friday evenings in August. Seating begins at 7:30pm and movies begin at dusk. It’s Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse tonight.

Movies in the Park from Pierce County Parks  at Sprinker Rec Center It’s The Little Mermaid

All the movies are FREE and start at dusk. Come early to play for pre-show activities and games at 7 p.m. Concessions on site.

Movie in the Park, Puyallup

Head to Bradley Lake Park for, “Flashback Fridays,” this summer. All movies are free and begin at dusk. Concessions are available for purchase. It’s Dolphin Tale tonight.

Cinema Under the Stars Gateway ParkKey PeninsulaFeaturing the movie “Aquaman.” Pre-movie craft activities begin at 7:30 pm. Movies begin at dusk.

Saturday

Mary Olson Farm Open House Hours

Free admission during regular open hours (special events may charge).
A suggested donation of $5 per adult and $2 per child is greatly appreciated. The Farm will be open 12pm – 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays from June 22 – August 25, 2019. The Farmhouse is open to tour each day from 1 – 4pm. Quiet, unplugged outing

Visit the HCC Mast Center at Redondo The center and its touch tanks of sea critters are free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2

Renaissance Faire, Bonney Lake – Saturdays/Sundays, August 3-4 ,10-11, 17-18. Take a trip back to Medieval times at the Faire! Experience pirates, faeries, and a royal masquerade, all with live entertainment!

Tacoma/South Tacoma/Lakewood/Fircrest

Free movie at The Grand

The third Saturday of each month, The Grand Cinema welcomes guests of all ages to a family-friendly movie for free! Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and movies start at 10:00 a.m. Seating is first-come, first-served. All children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Free Family Flick presented by Colombia Bank. It’s The Goonies today.
