South Sound Weekend Kids’ Calendar: Family Fun and Things to Do July 26th, July 27th, and July 28th

It’s another amazing weekend full of fun things to do with the kids. Slather on that sunscreen and get out! This is not a weekend to spend at home!

Friday

Movies in the Park, Pierce County Parks 

All the movies are FREE and start at dusk. Come early to play for pre-show activities and games at 7 p.m. Concessions on site will also be available provided by Bliss Creamery and Sirius Wood Fired Pizza.

Tonight is The Lego Movie 2 at Meridian Habitat Park Starts with special event, The Seattle Reptile Guy, from 6:30-8, followed by the movie at dusk.

Summer Outdoor Sounds and Movies, Auburn

All events will feature food concessions/food trucks, inflatable rides and an ArtRageous hands-on art activity. Lea Hill park Tonight. Beattles Tribute band, Creme Tangerine, and Incredibles 2 at dusk

Summer Movies at Cheney Stadium

Free and open to the public. Watch a movie from the ballfield. Note-readers have said this was fun, but that the sound was a little iffy. Also, keep in mind that you can’t wheel strollers on to the turf. If you went to one here last year, leave us a note and tell us how it was! Gates open at 6PM; show at 6:30 It’s Air Bud: World Pup tonight.

Friday Family Fun Movies in the Park, Gig Harbor

Each Friday in July, the city of Gig Harbor presents Movies in the Park. Bring your own chairs or blankets! movies at dusk; pre show activities before. It’s Mary Poppins Returns tonight.

Free STEAM day of play at Walmart Stores

Stop by your participating Walmart store on July 27th from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a free STEAM Day of Play! Kids can enjoy fun STEAM activities, including how to tie-dye, create slime and make a cereal necklace.

Mary Olson Farm Open House Hours

Free admission during regular open hours (special events may charge).
A suggested donation of $5 per adult and $2 per child is greatly appreciated. The Farm will be open 12pm – 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays from June 22 – August 25, 2019. The Farmhouse is open to tour each day from 1 – 4pm. Quiet, unplugged outing

Harry Potter Trivia at the Auburn Library 2:30-4:30 Ages 8 to adult.

In honor of Harry Potter’s birthday, come down to the Leaky Cauldron (aka the Auburn Library Meeting Room) for Harry Potter Trivia! Sign-ups start at 2:30pm, trivia game starts promptly at 3pm.

Make a Mars Rover at the Fife Library 1pm Use all your creativity to create a Mars Rover and, if you have time, a Martian or alien to drive it.

Orting Youth Market All new kid vendor market!  Markets will be held at the Orting Station Park at 101 Washington Ave N. from 3-7pm  Market theme will be “Superhero/Princess”  I also see a painting activity in conjunction.

It’s Rhubarb Festival time in Sumner

Saturday and Sunday-Rhubarb treats, kids’ activities, live music, and lots of opportunities to get your shop on.

The Little Mermaid at Manestage TheaterShowtimes on various dates through August 4th. Photo ops with Ariel and friends after every performance. Very limited tickets left for this weekend.

Friends of the Puyallup Library book sale Score a bargain on a book!

The GoodGuys car show is in Puyallup all weekend. My boys always enjoyed spotting the cool cars around town, but we’ve never gone to the event. If you have and know how kid friendly it is, please do leave a comment!

Glass Fest Northwest 

This all-day event puts glass art center stage by bringing together local artists and artisans, live glassmaking demonstrations, food, drinks, music, and hands-on activities.  Each visitor that provides a receipt from a purchase made with one of the artist vendors receives will receive one free admission to TAM and MOG on July 27, 2019. 10am-5PM

Join Alison Ness, from My Smart Hands Tacoma, for an introduction to baby sign language. Sign language is an excellent resource to help your little ones communicate before they are able to verbalize their needs. Bring your baby and prepare for fun.

Idea Hatch: Space Quest at the Wheelock Library 10:30

1-2-3-Blast off!  Join us as we explore space in this station based  exploration program. Participants will get to test real meteorites with robots, peer into an infinity star box, create a planetary object and watch it orbit in space,  experience Space VR, and More!

Family Storytime with Cubetto at the Swasey Library 10:30  Come and enjoy stories, songs and fingerplays.  Meet Cubetto, an early learning coding robot.  Fun for kids and parents too.

Rock Painting: Moon and Stars at the Fern Hill Library 2-4pm

You can sign-up online or at the check-out desk for a fun time. Use glow in the dark paint to make your own moon, stars or aliens! Or rock-out with metallic markers and paints, create your own, dragon’s eye or rocket ship. Or be traditional and paint quote or a flower! It’s all possible at Rock Painting.  All supplies provided. Registration required.

Drive-in Movies at America’s Car Museum, Tacoma

Grab dinner at our picnic concessions and watch in your car or from a blanket or chair, either option will give you a great view of the 40-foot outdoor screen!

The Drive-In movies have proven to be very popular, so be sure to arrive early to reserve your spot! Parking for the show starts at 4:30pm, with showtime at dusk (around 9pm). Drive-In movies are FREE to the public, but does not include Museum admission. It’s The Goonies

A Walk on the Moon: Children’s Program at the Planetarium

Why does the Moon have phases? How far away is it? What does the Earth look like from the Moon? Learn the answers to all these questions and more as we follow the footsteps of the Apollo astronauts and take a walk on the Moon!

This interactive planetarium show is specially designed for our youngest visitors aged 3-12. Approximately 45 minutes. $6 for participating children. Adults get in free! You only need to reserve seats for children. Saturdays in July at 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm.

Kids can drop in and practice reading with a patient, canine listener.

Cops, Cars N’ Kids in Lacey 11am-3pm

The Lacey Police Department hosts a free community event every year on the last Saturday in July. This fantastic event is a great way for the community to get to see their local police department and get to know its officers. There are tons of fun activities for the whole family including seeing behind the scenes on a station tour, trying out your CSI skills at the fingerprint station, hopping through the bounce houses, grabbing a free hot dog and sno-cone, and much more!
