What to Do This Weekend

Looking for things to do with the family in Tacoma, Olympia, or Gig Harbor this Saturday or Sunday?

Welcome to our guide to free and affordable family fun all over the South Puget Sound! We have one just like it up every Friday! This weekend, you can see Sesame Street, meet Daniel Tiger, explore an area park with a naturalist, or hit up a fun and free event at your library. Read on for all of that and more!

South Sound Kid's Calendar

Ongoing

Indigo Frozen Fountain  Ice Skating at Point Ruston, November 14th – February 2nd. The Grand Plaza at Point Ruston will be transformed into a winter wonderland! Follow link for admission details and holiday hours.

Saturday

All Over

Barnes and Noble story time Most area stores offer a story time for children at 11am. We do suggest confirming with yours as we have found participation to be inconsistent. It’s Pig the Pug today.

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores 

Choose from two different classes for kids every Saturday. 2.00 or 5.00 per child, depending on class. “Thumbprint snow scene” today. Note: Use the drop down menu to choose the class near you.

South King County

Sesame Street Live at the Showare Center in Kent

Jump to the beat with your friends on Sesame Street! Introducing an all-new, interactive show that unfolds on one of the world’s most famous streets at the funniest, furriest party in the neighborhood…get ready for Sesame Street LIVE! 2 and 6pm; there is also a, “Pre show experience,” option.

The Little Engine That Could at StoryBook Theater in Renton

Shows today and tomorrow. There is also a special sensory friendly time today. Complete list here.

Auburn Avenue Kids Presents Louie Foxx

2-4PM Magician, funny guy Louie Foxx is super entertaining for all ages; 10.00 tickets

Visit the HCC Mast Center at Redondo The center and its touch tanks of sea critters are free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2

Puyallup/Greater Pierce County

The Sportsman’s Show is at the fairgrounds in Puyallup Saturday and Sunday. This is mostly an event for folks interested in camping, fishing, and other outdoor fun (or shopping for the gear for all this fun!) but there are some fun things for kids to look at and a fishing pond.

Yoga Story Time at the South Hill Library 10:30

Pacfice Science Center – Mathbusters at the Bonney Lake Library 11am
Explore the many ways we use numbers, shapes, probability and measurement everyday. This interactive show uses games and a thrilling chemical reaction to demonstrate that math is a blast!

Read to a Dog at the Eatonville Library 3-4pm

Share a book with a furry friend while improving your reading skills.

Pacific Science Center – Math-busters! at the Buckley Library 2pm
The Pacific Science Center will be visiting the Buckley library to teach families about everyday math using games and demonstrations.

Bethel Art Festival & Technology Fair.
Escape Room, Art Exhibits, Coding & Creation Stations, Robotic Competitions, Onsite Challenges, Drones & more. Note from SFM: This is new to the list. I *believe* it’s open to all, but I don’t have a lot of details.

Tacoma

Family nature walk at Oak Tree Park

Explore Tacoma’s Parks on free walks with naturalists. Pre registration is now required. Not suitable for strollers; perfect for ages 3 and up.

Love Pokémon? Join the library for a Pokémon craft day! Pikachu and Eevee are two characters you’ll get to create!

Ozobots at the Swasey Library

Ozobots: Program Miniature Robots Using Color 4-5pm  

Have fun with Ozobots that move in patterns, play games and dance! Using different color markers to draw, these mini robots can be programmed to follow commands.

    • Channel ideas into reality – racetracks, puzzles, mazes, obstacle loops, battlefields
    • Encourage sequential thinking and logical reasoning

Family Movie Matinee at the Tillicum Library

Watch a newly-released DVD while enjoying free popcorn and fruit juice. 2:30-4 Call the library for the title.

Superhero Skate at the Sprinker Rec Center

Come dressed as a super hero and receive $7.00 cheapskate admission (includes admission, skate rental & tax)
See a show at the Pierce College Science Dome   The area’s only indoor planetarium. It’s great!

Gig Harbor

Paradise Theater presents The Diary of Anne Frank  Tickets and showtimes here

Probably best for teens or mature tweens due to the subject matter.

Olympia area

OFS Kids Club at Capitol Theater presents a free showing of Mirai for kids 12 and under. More info. on the film via the link. Tickets available at box office 30 minutes prior to showtime.

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center and learn about amphibians today.

Are you interested in knowing more about our native frogs and salamanders? Are you 12 or older? Then this 9:30-11 am workshop is for you! Join Stream Team and herpetologist Dr. Marc P. Hayes for a fun, informative workshop exploring the ecology, habitat requirements, and unique characteristics of local species. You’ll learn how to identify different life stages of local amphibians with emphasis on egg mass identification. Register for this workshop at www.streamteam.info. Amphibian activities for all ages throughout the day.
