There are so many great things to do with your kids this weekend! My favorite part is how many of them are free! Read on for all of them! 

All Weekend

The Northwest Pinball and Arcade Show is at the Tacoma Convention Center all weekend.

Maple Valley Days
For over 60 years we have celebrated as a community and we want you to join us! With 10,000-15,000 visitors to the festival each year, 120 food/vendor booths, 75 parade entrants, carnival rides and much more, Maple Valley Days is a festival no area resident should miss. Free day at Washington State Parks for Get Outdoors Day; no Discover Pass required

It’s Free Fishing Weekend

“Free Fishing Weekend” is June 9-10, 2018, when fishing licenses are not required of anyone to fish in Washington. Free Fishing Weekend in Washington is always the first weekend after the first Monday in June.

Also NOT required on Free Fishing Weekend:

  • Vehicle Access Pass (which comes with a fishing license)
  • A Discover Pass will not be required on WDFW or Washington State Park lands throughout the weekend, but will be required on DNR lands both days.

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores 2.00/child for ages 3-8. Sessions are 30 minutes. It’s cactus themed crafts today. There is also a slightly different version at the same time for ages 6+ for  5.00.  And from 1-3 there is a Make-Break activity; that one is, “Glow in the Dark Slime,” and the supplies are provided.

Storytime at Barnes and Noble stores Most area stores do a free, weekly storytime at 11AM; however, we do suggest calling yours to confirm first, as we have found participation to be inconsistent. It’s Incredibles 2: Sweet Dreams, Jack-Jack

Summer Reading Kick-Off at the Kent Library. Sign up for Summer Reading, try some fun activities, then enjoy the African rhythms and beats of Gansango at 2pm as they demonstrate the wide variety of drums and instruments found across Africa.1-3

The Springfree Trampoline NW Kids Fair is at the fairgrounds vendors, costumed characters, bounce houses, and more fun! Tickets here.

Make and Take Craft at Ben Franklin

On Sat. June 9 (11am-1pm) for only $9 you’ll be able to make a holder that you can give to dad for Father’s Day, or that you can use for your own supplies. You’ll use Yupo Paper and Alcohol Inks to create colorful art that will wrap the inside of your see-through holder. You can stamp, or write a message of your choice. (supplies all included in the $9 fee).Everyone is welcome. No registration needed.

We will be showing classics from Warner Bros., Hanna Barbera, and more. 10AM Link says tweens and teens, but I’d think younger kids would be welcome. Let us know if you go!

Craft Saturday at the Job Carr Cabin Museum
Drop by Job Carr Cabin Museum for our monthly Craft Saturday event. Activities are designed for children ages 3-9 and their families. Make your own pioneer toys today. 12-4 Admission to the Museum and all events are “pay as you can.”

EggBot at the Kobetich Branch of the Tacoma Public Library 10:30

EggBot is an art robot that draws on spherical or egg-shaped objects. Ping pong balls provided. People may bring and experiment with eggs, light bulbs, and holiday ornaments. Ages 6 – 18 (manufacturer recommended age 10 and up) Required: Registration and assisting adult

Seattle Reptile Guy is at the Wheelock Library at 10:30 and Swasey at 2:30 Pick up free tickets the day of for the Wheelock show; check on Swasey.

Electrical Snap Circuits at Mottet

  • Learn how electricity moves
  • Follow colorful pictures and build exciting projects
  • Encourages experimentation and independent thinking
  • Parts mounted on plastic modules and easily snap together
  • Ages 6 – 14 with accompanying adult (Manufacturer recommended age 8 – 15) 2:30-4:30; registration required
Geology ROCKS! at Tacoma Libraries

It’s fun to hunt, collect and examine rocks. Join us for a 90 minute hands-on session with professional rock hound Bob Jackson, to explore what’s fascinating about rocks and rock mining in the Pacific Northwest. Participants should be 10 and up and will receive a sample of rocks to keep. Seating is limited and registration is required. Main at 10 and Wheelock at 2

Maritime Heritage Celebration at the Steilacoom Library. Watercolor Schooners and Hands-On Sink or Float Science Activity.  All ages. 11-1

See a show at the Science Dome. It’s the area’s only indoor planetarium, and it’s great!

Gone Fishing Event at Bass Pro Shops

Gone fishing is here! From FREE fishing seminars to our famous Catch and Release pond! We will be having a variety of fun for the whole family.

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center and learn about Stars, Dollars, and Spines today.

Does a brittle star use an Aristotle’s lantern to see in the dark? Is a sea cucumber edible? Come find out during a 2 pm presentation exploring the lives of the echinoderms, a marine invertebrate group that also includes sea stars, sand dollars, and sea urchins. Related arts and crafts all day.

Princess and the Pea at Olympia Family Theater

Let’s Play are short 25-minute interactive shows and are perfect for the very youngest of audience members— toddlers, preschoolers and up. Giggles guaranteed! 5.00 per person 10AM

June Second Saturday Spectacular Variety Show with Airbound Arts

Airbound Arts is home to Olympia’s only monthly variety show, and we are proud to welcome artists from all over the region to our stage! Come see aerials, acrobats, and other fine folk show off their stuff! Different acts every month, so there is always something new and unique!

The show starts at 7 pm, all ages, smoke-free environment! Some seating, and lots of mat space available.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

Strawberry festival at the South Bay Grange

Community beach clean up at the Purdy Spit

In honor of World Oceans Day, Ocean5 is partnering with Harbor WildWatch to clean up one of our favorite local beaches on Saturday, June 9th, from 9-12pm.

Walking Waterfront Tour

Our original tour – Harbor Heritage: Then and Now meets at the Maritime Pier next to the Tides Tavern. Take a family-friendly journey through Gig Harbor’s maritime history.  Wear comfy shoes, rain or shine. Presented by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, Harbor WildWatch and the Harbor History Museum.

Second Sunday at Morse Wildlife preserve in Graham nice, quiet outing at this preserved space. Kids will like the boardwalks. Parking here is very tight-consider carpooling. Free!

Tacoma

Tacoma OceanFest

A free festival on Tacoma’s waterfront that brings together arts, sciences and water play to celebrate our ocean, tell about its threats and inspire us all to protect it. Lots of kids’ activities!

Monthly stroll with Channing Baby and Co. 

We will meet at the store at 10am to head out to Anthem Coffee then on a quick walk on the new Prairie Line Trail through the UW campus downtown Tacoma. We expect it will take 45min-1hr. Everyone is welcome!

Marine Life cookie decorating at the Nisqually Reach Nature Center  Come decorate some marine themed sugar cookies with us!
