Meet a Mom Around The Sound: Laura in Enumclaw

October 25, 2017 by Maegen Blue

Tell us about your family

I am a mom of 3 ages 7, 9, and 11. All our kids have birthdays within 3 weeks of each other. The oldest is a girl so that means the boys have 2 moms. We live on ten acres and have a hobby farm complete with a pony, goats, chickens, and rabbits.  My husband and I have been married for 17 years, and he still makes me belly laugh! I use a stethoscope for my job and my husband uses a badge for his.

Tell us about yourself-What are your goals, passions, or dreams?

The one family quote we are consistent with is, “Listen and obey.” We don’t ask much, but what we do ask we expect to be honored.  I try and let my kids be kids.  We try and foster an environment where they can be adventuresome and creative.  I also encourage them to take risks and make mistakes.  The goal is eventually independent adults, right??!! Hopefully we are shaping confident, self-starters.

How would you describe your parenting style? What parts of parenting have been the most rewarding, surprising, or challenging?

There was a period of 9 months were parenting was hard; I mean really hard. My husband took an unexpected promotion the same summer we moved in, and he moved to Eastern Washington. I was home alone Monday thru Friday with a 2 month old, a 2 year old, and a 4 year old, and one working sink!  Did I mention we had a total fixer upper? My husband would come home Friday night, and I worked Friday and Saturday. What did I learn from this stretch?  Well, I learned I parent better with a partner, and if you don’t ask for help you won’t get help.

Tell us about your community-How long have you lived here? What do you love about your town?

We have lived on the Enumclaw plateau for the last 7 years, having moved when our youngest was just 10 days old.  I love the small town charm of Enumclaw and local community events.  A favorite is the Christmas parade and downtown Halloween trick-or-treating.  Mt. Peak is a good way to get a quick hike in, and Mr. Rainier likes to show off around here!
Our favorite places include the Point Defiance Zoo (the membership is worth its weight in gold), the Auburn Veteran’s Day parade, North Lake Tapps park for swimming and Mud Mountain Dam.  We also recently discovered the White River Valley Museum does overnights for children 7-12 a few times a year. My kids went and LOVED it! We also love the King County Fair and the Buckley Log Show.
I am very much looking forward to hiking the Enchantments in Leavenworth this summer.  My husband and I signed up for a 24 mile day hike while raising money and awareness for sex trafficking.

For being our featured mom this month, we’re delighted to give Laura a super fun basket of goodies from our friends at Molen Orthodontics.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of the community minded folks at Molen Orthodontics. We love Molen so much that if you message me I’ll give you my personal cell phone or email and tell you all about our experience! Or just  book or chat online yourself!  Your first evaluation is always FREE!
