The weather is beautiful, and we’re down to just a few precious summer weekends! Let’s make fun the priority today, shall we? We’ve got a great list this weekend, with free events for kids in Tacoma, Graham, Kent, Edgewood…..and just about everywhere else in the South Sound you might be looking for something fun to do.

Story time at Barnes and Noble “How to Get Your Teacher Ready,” story time at 11AM at most stores. We do suggest calling to confirm participation. Educators can also save 25% on most purchases today.
Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores 2.00/child for 30 minute sessions 10-12 It’s a neon letter art project today. There is also a customize your own slime jar event from 1-3PM; slime will be provided-not sure on the cost on this….maybe the cost of the jar? Michael’s stores are also hosting free rock painting events Saturdays in August-all supplies included. Once again, though these are nation wide events, it’s never a bad idea to call and check.

Summer Traffic Garden Pop Up at Swan Creek ParkA Traffic Garden is a playground where children of all ages can practice walking, bicycling, and skating while learning how to safely navigate local streets. EggBot at the Library EggBot is an art robot that draws on spherical or egg-shaped objects. 10:30 at Mottet or 3 at Wheelock. These are free events, but you do need to register. To do that, go to the library calendar and find the program/site of your choosing and click, “Register.”

Free tours at Brown’s Point Lighthouse Park 1-4PM. Great little park. Only downside is parking is almost nonexistent, and no, the club next door will not share. It is worth finding, though!
Pierce College Science Dome show Children’s shows at 12:30 or 2 See an interactive show in the area’s only indoor planetarium! Nice, indoor option! Children’s show is, “Wild weather,” today.

Magic Show with Jeff Evans at the Hands-On Children’s Museum Note from SFM: He’s great! The HOCM is pricey if you can’t take advantage of discounts, But you can seriously spend the whole day here!! Right now you can also score a Groupon and get (my link) Admission for One, Two, or Four to Hands On Children’s Museum Olympia (Up to 42% Off)! That’s a good deal for this spot!
Waterfront walking tour 1.3 mile, free walking tour. We haven’t listed these before, but it says, “Family friendly,” so I think any child capable of walking the distance at a tour group pace should be fine. Let us know if you go!
Those who wish to take the tour should meet at the Maritime Pier 15 minutes prior to the 10 am start time. Tour size is limited to the first 20 participants. Any weekend activities: take a trolley ride for .50, visit your farmer’s market, tour the Harbor History Museum, or enjoy one of your gorgeous parks or trails. You might also see what’s going on at Discovery Village or the YMCA.

Note from SFM: While not a total bargain, if you have an elementary aged kiddo who loves history, this is great fun and a full afternoon. There is quite a lot of hands on stuff and the volunteers will love talking to you. In fact, they will talk your ear off all day and sign you up if you let them. You’ve been warned……:)
