Got girls? I’m excited to tell you about SheJumps! a non profit dedicated to getting more girls and women outdoors.
You can join in this Thursday, August 10th, when SheJumps! invites girls and their favorite grown-ups up to Crystal Mountain for an event you won’t want to miss.
Girls and their chaperones get to ride to the top of Crystal Mountain via the gondola, and then they get to visit various stations as they hike down, where they’ll learn outdoor skills such as first aid, navigation, shelter building, and more!
Arrive anytime between 9-11AM, register, and get your Wild Skills Adventure Map! After a quick lesson in Leave No Trace principles, and a “Gear check,” to make sure you have the ten essentials, you’ll be off.
The Crystal Mountain gondola is super fun to ride, and if you’re lucky you’ll get beautiful views of wildflower meadows, Mt.Rainier, and the Cascades.
From the top, you’ll make your way down, stopping at stations where girls will learn skills and get stamps on their maps. Complete them anytime until 3. There is a wrap party and prizes at the end!
For tips, tickets, and everything else you need to know, you can head here! You can also ask questions on their Facebook event page, and if you have easy ones, I’ll try to help, too! Do remember the Ten Essentials-if you’re intimidated by this list, head to REI or somewhere similar, and they’ll hook you up.
Online tickets end on Wednesday, so get yours now! You can also get them the day of the event; you just won’t get the discount.
If the price is an issue, there are scholarships available. Emailcpelland@shejumps.org for details on that.
Now, I know I’m not giving you a ton of notice here, but I also know our readers know how to be spontaneous, especially when there is adventuring to be had! I think this would be such a wonderful day of bonding with your girls, and totally brag worthy when they go back to school! It would also be fun for you and your girls to take along your bffs.
The mission of the SheJumps! non profit is to encourage girls and women to get outdoors, so this will be a girl-centric day. However, the mountain is open to all, and if you need to bring along brother, that’s just fine! The organizers told me they’ll just be thrilled to see more families out in the outdoors.
If you can’t make this one, do be sure you get SheJumps! on your radar for the future. They do all kinds of cool outdoor programs for girls all year round!
