There are lots of great happenings in South King County, Tacoma, Puyallup, and Lacey this weekend, and So Many of them are Free. Yay! We’ve also included some splurge worthy options. Story time at Barnes and Noble 11AM. We suggest finding your store and calling directly to confirm as participation is inconsistent. It’s the Little Excavator at most locations.
Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores 2.00/child for 30 minute sessions 10-12 It’s a Winter Wonderland castle today (Looks a lot like something for your Frozen fan). You can also check out their summer kids’ classes, Camp Creativity.

Touch tanks at HCC Mast at Redondo Free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2 Kids can touch and learn about sea creatures!
Parents’ Night Out at Les Gove Park gym in Auburn Supervised fun and play for kids 3-11 plus dinner and a snack! Registration and fees required.
Puyallup/Greater Pierce County
Go Green Games! It’s FREE, and it’s a whole afternoon of kids’ activities including the giant inflatable slide, mascot appearances, and more. There is also a squirt gun fight-2.00 fee for that and bring your own squirt gun. Admission and all the other activities are FREE. You may want to bring a few bucks for food concessions. AKC dog show at the fairgrounds Free. When Henry was younger and dog obsessed we had a lot of fun going to this. Do ASK before you pet or approach a dog as they’re getting, “Show ready,” but most folks are very friendly.
Free kids gardening class with the master gardeners in Puyallup. It’s an herb theme today.
Kids’ garage sale at Grayland Park. This is supposed to be kids selling to kids. In practice, it’s a lot of moms and dads selling kids’ stuff (my opinion only….), but hey, you might score a bargain!
Tacoma South Tacoma Lakewood
Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the TMP various show dates and times through the 30th. Tickets are going fast for this one!
Family nature walk at Wapato Park Volunteer naturalists lead free walks. Not suitable for strollers; perfect for ages 3 and up. You do now have to register for these walks. 10AM
PBS Playdate at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma It’s Odd Squad. 10-11 Monthly themed activities with a PBS show tie in. These are now first-come, first-served. We’ve heard mixed things about how that is going. The museum is pay-as-you-will.
Amazing Spiderman Day at Comics the Gathering Free comics, appearance by the, “Webslinger,” and specials on Spiderman items. Hint: The webslinger looks a lot like Spiderman. Take lots of pictures!
The Joshua J. Superstar Supershow at the Swasey Library 3:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Sidesplitting comedy, stunts, and audience participation! Free, drop in summer reading event; also at Wheelock at 10:30 and Mottet at 1:30
3-D collage making at the Moore Library Free craft event for tweens and teens
Crafts from the Past at Ft.Nisqually Each weekend artisans demonstrate crafts and trades from the 1800s. Included with fort admission It’s weaving today.
Ozobots – Program Miniature Robots Using Color! at the Main Branch of the Tacoma Public Library 2:30-4:30 or South Tacoma 10:30-12:30 Using different color markers to draw, these mini robots can be programmed to follow commands.
Kids must bring a grown up, and you do need to register in advance. Navigate to the program of your choice and click on, “Register.” Each has 20 spots open as of this writing.
Free drive in movie at the LeMay-ACM. It’s Raiders of the Lost Ark; Movie starts at dusk. Gates open at 4:30. You can purchase reasonably priced concessions. The museum itself is Not free.
The City of Lakewood presents SummerFest Free day full of fun with kids’ zone, live entertainment, a fun run and kids’ dash and much more. Free, though you may want to bring some money for vendors and such. Ft.Steilacoom Park The biggest day of the summer for Lakewood Parks!
See a children’s program at the Science Dome! Seriously, make sure you have at least one show here on your summer bucket list. It’s the only indoor planetarium in the area, and a very reasonably priced outing. Your kids will love it, and summer is a great time to encourage an interest in astronomy.

Tour the tugboat Sandman at Percival Landing. Open to the public, free of charge most weekends
Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center and learn about whales today. Presentation at 2PM; whale themed fun and art projects all day. The center is always free.
Visit the South Sound Estuarium open 11-4 weekends; 5.00 admission for the whole family

Anytime fun: The Gig Harbor Michael’s does usually do the craft on Saturdays (see All Over). Visit the Harbor WildWatch touch tanks, walk downtown, stop by the Harbor History Museum or Java n Clay; get some frozen yogurt at Uptown and take a trolley; visit one of your great parks or beaches-we recommend Sehmel for a playground and Kopachuck or Penrose for beach exploration.
Castle construction art workshop at the Auburn Library For ages 6 and up with a favorite grown up. Work together to build a castle with boxes, tubes, and your imagination! Supplies provided. Pick up a free ticket at the information desk on the day of the program.
Miniature Garden Workshop for Kids at Watson’s Nursery Puyallup/Tacoma The event will start with a book reading including coloring activities and then the kids will build their very own Plants in Disguise Miniature Garden! The cost of the Miniature Garden Workshop is $24.99, which includes all the materials and instruction. Space is limited (20 participants) Join us afterwards where Lise and Debi will be available for book signing!

Open Trails at the Morse Wildllife Preserve in Graham The preserve and its short boardwalk trail is open to the public on 2nd Sundays. Parking is tight here; carpool if you’re going with pals.

Meet the Beach at Priest Point with the South Sound Estuary Association near Olympia; volunteer naturalists help children explore beaches at low tide
