Lucky you! The two very fun, outdoor pools in Tacoma have opened, just in time for the heat we’re supposed to get this weekend.
There are two public, outdoor pools run by Metro Parks Tacoma. You don’t have to live in Tacoma to use them.
One is at Kandle Park. It’s actually a wave pool. I know-how cool is that? There is also a sprayground area and tot pool here as well as a fun playground.
As you can tell, it does get crowded at times, but we’ve heard nothing but good reviews from readers. Tip: They keep the water nice and warm, so you might want to go on a cloudy or cooler day to have less company! It has a beach style entry which is nice for younger kids or middle aged ladies who don’t like to be suddenly underwater (ahem….).
Admission is 6.00 kids/8.00 adults for a half session. Kids 4 and under are free.
Another option is the outdoor pool at Stewart Heights.
The Stewart Heights pool features a lazy river, a water slide, and other fun. Several readers have told us this one is less crowded since Kandle opened.
Both pools also offer passes, parties, lessons, and other special activities. We think it’s worth adding at least one trip to your family bucket list this summer. If you’re on a zero dollar budget you can go for FREE on the 4th of July!
There is also an outdoor pool in Fircrest that has public swim times, and pools in Renton and Lacey. We have more information about those options here!
