A quick heads up that FREE comic book day is right around the corner.
This special Saturday the first weekend of May when kids get FREE comic books is pretty much my kid’s favorite day of the year!
It’s just like it sounds. You show up, and your kid gets free comic books! Read on for how to find a store and how to know which comics are age appropriate.
It’s a nationwide event, and most comic stores do participate. Some also have special events. There is often a line for the free comics, but they usually go quickly because stores are prepared. I’ve never heard of a store running out of the free titles, though I suppose it could happen.
There are always kid friendly titles available, but sometimes comic violence can sneak up on you, so you may want to preview the titles before you hand them over to your kiddo, and make sure the store owner knows you want kid appropriate reads.
My kiddo was a reluctant reader until he discovered the world of graphic novels and comic books (Yes, they’re different things)! He’s now a regular at Destiny City Comics, which is the small shop next to King’s Books. It’s not a comicpalooza, but the owner, Mike, is awesome.
If you’ve got a favorite comic shop, leave a comment and let us know!
I’ll remind you about this event in our weekend list, but I knew some of you would want to share it with your pals now!
