South Sound Weekend Kids’ Calendar: Family Fun and Things To Do March 3rd, March 4th, and March 5th!

Looking for something fun and free to do with the kids this weekend? We’ve got you covered with fun for kids in Tacoma, Kent, Olympia, Gig Harbor, and all over the South Sound! Make it a great one!

Ongoing

Want to go sledding or play in the snow? Here’s our guide! As of this writing, the snow play area at Paradise is still open, but we suggest you double check weather and road conditions before heading to any of these spots.

Friday

Free first Friday night at the Hands-On Children’s Museum in Olympia

The state hs basketball tournament is going on this weekend. Just take your earplugs if you go!

Saturday

All Over

Good Night, Good Night Construction site story time at most Barnes and Noble stores. 11AM We do suggest calling your location to confirm, as we have found participation to be inconsistent.

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores 2.00/child for 30 minute sessions It’s a Sprout nature journal. Supplies included!

South King County

Visit the HCC Mast Center at Redondo The center and its touch tanks of sea critters are free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2

Free kids’ art project at the Rusty Raven studio in Kent

Puget Sound WildCare, “Baby shower,”  Fundraiser to help this organization that takes care of wild animals. I don’t know anything about this group, but this is from their fb page-Tip via ILoveKent

Our wildlife patients will not be joining us for the baby shower, but we do have a few educational critters that we plan to set up in our enclosures to give you an idea of how they are housed. We have our band-tailed pigeons, our pileated woodpecker, and Flower the one-eyed opossum! They need more experience being looked at so feel free to join us!

Puyallup/Greater Pierce County

Grab your camera! It’s Read with a Princess time at area libraries. Princesses from the Daffodil Festival will read with children and be glad to pose for pictures. These are free events, and the Daffodil Princesses are great role models. They’ll be at Buckley, Eatonville, and Graham Libraries at 11AM, at Summit and Sumner at 11AM at Bonney Lake at 1PM and at Fife, Milton/Edgewood, Orting, and South Hill at 2PM (See below for times in Tacoma and Gig Harbor).

Coast to Coast Comic Con at Destiny City Comics costume contest, special comics. If you are a Serious comic buff, you probably know that the big Emerald City Comic Con is up in Seattle this weekend.

Mommy and Me workshop at The Makery. 2:30-5

Children and all ages shows at the Pierce College Science Dome/planetarium Children’s show at 12:30 or 2PM; all ages at 3:15. The children’s show is shorter and interactive and now suitable for ages 3-12! Do bring cash or get your tickets in advance.

Hoops for Heroes. It’s Army vs first responders in this charity basketball game

If you are a military family, the JBLM Operation Baby Shower for new or expectant parents is today Definitely worth going for the freebies.

Olympia area

Spring Fling festival at the Thurston County fairgrounds.  booths and vendors

Visit the South Sound Estuarium interactive marine discovery! Open 11-4 weekends at their new location. 5.00 admission covers the whole family

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center and learn about nature’s engineers today. Presentation at 2PM with building themed activities all day. The center is free.

Gig Harbor/Kitsap

Mommas and Minis Spring consignment event in Gig Harbor

Health and Safety Expo with Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One  variety of health screenings; not a kids’ event, but I think they’d get to see trucks and firefighters, which might be worth it for transportation loving kiddos.

Pier Into the Night with Harbor WildWatch night time event with live divers bringing up sea critters

Father/Daughter dance from St.Nicholas open to the public; limited to the first 200-tickets available for 30.00 per pair/8.00 additional child  6-8PM at the Canterwood Country Club

Sunday

Portrait Party free community festival at the Tacoma Art Museum 12-4 Free admission to the museum and exhibits; probably of interest to older children. You can see the full schedule here. If you go, don’t miss getting  a Polaroid portrait with our friends Ike & Tash and their group for girls, And Her.

5.00 off admission at LeMay America’s Car Museum    To celebrate their 5th anniversary on the 5th of very month ACM will offer a 5.00 discount on admission plus a 5.00 special. Today it’s 5.00 rides in CXC racing simulators in the ACM Speed Zone.  Note from SFM: This is a spendier museum, and they don’t do free library passes, so this is really a deal worth considering. Don’t miss the Kids’ Zone if you go.

New Parent Meet-Up at the Sumner Library 1PM parents/caregivers of babies up to 2. Babes can socialize while parents chat. Info. on community resources; coffee, optional gear/clothing trade.
