South Sound Kids’ Calendar: Family Fun And Things To Do This Weekend February 17th, 18th, and 19th!

Need something to do with the kids this President’s Weekend? Here’s our weekly guide to free and cheap fun for families for February 17th, 18th, and 19th! Note we’ll also have a list of ideas up on the home page (right here-lol) later this weekend for those of you with mid-winter breaks to fill.

Friday

Fridays are a big day for library story times. Check a branch near you! Tacoma friends, TPL will be closed for the holiday Saturday, so load up now!

The Globetrotters are at the Showare Center in Kent-shows Friday or Monday at 7PM. Tickets start around 27.00

There are many daddy/daughter dances this month. If you miss the one closest to you, all neighboring parks depts. welcome you, typically for just a few dollars more.

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores 2.00/child for 30 minute sessions It’s a, “Potted cactus,” craft

Lego Batman scavenger hunt at Target stores 10AM-1PM

It’s Backyard Bid Count time. Be a citizen scientist from anywhere by counting birds and submitting your results.

South King County

Birdfest in Burien. educational activities, nature walks, and more 10-2 at the Burien Community Center

Healthy Auburn Resource Fair. Info on community resources, Tooth Fairy appearance, vaccinations, and more

Visit the HCC Mast Center at Redondo The center and its touch tanks of sea critters are free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2 Back open! This really is a great, little outing-the volunteers are super friendly, and did we mention it’s free?

Family night at Wine and Canvas in Federal Way.  Make a painting as a family-NO alcohol at this event. I don’t know this spot, but it looked like a fun idea. Let us know how it goes if you try it!

Puyallup/Bonney Lake/Fife/Sumner

It’s the last weekend of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Sumner ManeStage

Lego My Library at the Puyallup Public Library Stories and Lego building time 11AM.

Spanish story time at the Fife Library 10:30 songs, stories, and rhymes for families with young children

Sensory friendly family swim time at the PHS pool. Kids at Play therapy and Exceptional Families host a swim for families with children with sensory issues. Tickets here

Tacoma/South Tacoma/Lakewood/Parkland

Free family flick at the Grand in Tacoma It’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 10AM; doors open at 9:30. Free to the first 100 thanks to Colombia Bank

Craft Saturday at the Job Carr Cabin Museum activities for families with children 3-9; it’s pine cone bird feeders today. The little museum in Old Town and its events are always, “Pay as you can.”

Family STEAM day at LeMay ACM. special activities included with admission-you can make a balloon powered car today! Regular adult admission is spendy, but this is a fun spot to visit.

Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott at Tacoma Musical Playhouse The story of the Civil Rights pioneer. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Shows Saturday and Sunday

Family nature walk at McKinley Park Volunteers from the Tacoma Nature Center lead a free walk. You are Required to register now. Not suitable for strollers; perfect for ages 3 and up. 10AM

Ranger Led Nature Walk in the rhody garden at Pt.Defiance 1PM Meet the Pt.Defiance ranger for a walk! Reservations are now required; not suitable for strollers; perfect for ages 3 and up!

Children and all ages shows at the Pierce College Science Dome/planetarium Children’s show at 12:30 or 2PM; all ages at 3:15. The children’s show is shorter and interactive and now expanded to suit ages 3-12! My kiddo LOVED it. Seriously-this is a Great outing. Go! You do want to buy tickets in advance or bring cash.

Community block play at the Parkland/Spanaway Library 10AM Drop in and build!

Family movie matinee at the Tillicum Library 1PM Titles are newer-to-DVD family movies. Free popcorn and drinks!

Olympia area

Free dental screenings for children between 12-2 at the HOCM. Be sure to check out our post on free museum admission for families with EBT cards!

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center and learn about biomimicry today.  Lecture at 2PM followed by a STEM activity; other all ages activities available all day. The center and its exhibits and activities are always free.

Gig Harbor/Kitsap

Lego Mindstorm event for ages 8-18 at the library. Eep! 3 spots left Register here

Every weekend fun: Your Michael’s does usually do the kids’ craft. You could also check out the touch tanks at the Skansie Visitors’ Center, visit the Harbor History Museum, or go play at Discovery Village, the Y, or one of your great parks or trails. If you know a fun happening I missed, let me know!

Sunday
