Have you been to the Covington Aquatic Center? Contributor Tiffany says this fun pool has something for everyone-and no, you don’t have to be a Covington resident to go! Read on for her review.
My family has enjoyed swimming at the Covington Aquatic Center for several years. My husband and I get our exercise during lap swim, and our kids enjoy the heated pool and special events.
There are two main swim sessions to choose from; family or public swim. Family swim is when the shallow end is open for families to swim and play, while the deep end is divided into lanes for lap swim. During family swim, the slide, diving board, and rope swing are not open. Children under 6 years old or under 48 inches tall must be supervised by an adult always.
Public swim means that the whole pool is open to everyone. In the deep end, a flume slide, diving board, and rope swing are fun activities for kids who are old enough to land in the pool and swim to the side independently (life jackets are allowed). Kids must pass a swim test before going in the deep end without a life jacket. During public swim, either the magic carpet or the octopus is up for play. The octopus is a giant inflatable for kids to climb on. The magic carpet is a runway stretched across the deep end of the pool for kids to attempt (they seldom make it the whole way!) to walk or crawl across.
The shallow end features a basketball goal for shooting baskets, pool noodles, floating mats, lots of balls, and plenty of lifejackets for kids who need them.
The center also offers classes, parties, and special events. About once a month there are also special, themed swims. My son went to the Harry Potter-themed swim and loved it. The facility is available for party rental as well.
Note: The pool is closed for maintenance February 26-March 4, 2017
