SuperHero Party!

January 30, 2017 by Maegen Blue

Several of you have asked about the fun SuperHero party for kids from Pierce County Parks and Rec. Here’s the scoop! Note that you do have to pre-register by February 8th, so don’t wait too long if your caped crusader wants in.

“Come dressed in your favorite Superheroes costume or just wear a black t-shirt to participate in our annual Superhero Party!”

Games, crafts, a dance party, and punch and a snack are included in the price, which is 13.00 per child. Each child will also go home with some hero souvenirs.

The event is Saturday, February 11th from 2-4PM at Meridian Habitat Park-that’s the one on South Hill with the pond across from the Walgreens. Kids under 5 need to have a grown up stay. For questions or to register, call 253 798 4177 or register online. Pierce County Parks events are open to all; you need not live in a particular area.

Any Moana fans? This sing-along version looks like it would be fun to see!

Plus, haven’t you always wanted to sing along at the movies?

If you’d like to find a show near you, here’s a link to Fandango. You may need to change the zip code. There look to be quite a few theaters, and multiple dates to choose from.

We haven’t seen this one yet. I’d love to hear reviews from those of you who have!

South Sound Daddy Daughter Dances

January 23, 2017 by Shaun Bush

It’s our South Sound Father Daughter dance list!

The good news is that many popular Daddy Daughter Dances including father and daughter dance events near Puyallup, Tacoma, and Federal Way, are coming up.

This list has events organized roughy north to south; I have included the dates of each, but note that they are not organized by date. Dances on this list are father/daughter or daddy/daughter events, AND, I have also included family dances, including the new South Sound Family Formal from our friends at Tacoma Children’s School and The Pod Works.

I have not included mother/son events, which will be on a separate list.

Lists to every event are included so you can confirm the details and reserve your spot!

Updated for 202o!

You need not be a resident of the community to attend the event, but most do require you to get tickets in advance, and the events do vary as far as what ages are welcome. Be sure to register and get your tickets as soon as you can, because many of them fill up quickly.

If you know one we missed, or you’ve been to one and can share a review, please leave a comment! Read on for the whole list!  We will have a separate list with mother/son and family dance events up soon!  [Read more…]

Train Show Coming to Puyallup!

January 19, 2017 by Maegen Blue

If you’ve got a train or Thomas lover, don’t miss your chance to take your kids to the big, family friendly train show coming to the fairgrounds in Puyallup!

I got in touch with the organizers to find out how much there would be for kids.

First, they explained that there are two different train shows. This show, World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour, has not been in the area since 2009.

You might have been to one of their other shows that appear more frequently in Puyallup. This version has even more to love-more manufacturers, lots more layouts, the ride-on Thomas, and more!

There is also a kids’ play area where your kids can get down and play to their heart’s content, and yes, tons of trains to look at and plenty of opportunities to shop! I will say the money I spent on my boys’ trains when they were little was really dollars well spent compared to a lot of the other plastic junk and doodads we ended up with. Both my guys put track together and played trains for hours and hours.

You can get more information about the show and see pictures of the train kids can ride in here at their site. I would definitely check that out so the kids know what to picture and expect. You can also check them out on Facebook.

The show is Saturday and Sunday, the 20th and 21st at the fairgrounds in Puyallup. It runs 10AM-6 on Saturday and 10AM-5PM Sunday. Kids 16 and under are FREE and don’t need tickets. Parking is also FREE. Adult tickets are available at the door (cash only) or buy online and get a discounted rate! You can do that here.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, but the opinions are all my own! If you buy tickets online be sure to say you saw the event on Sounds Fun Mom. Thanks for doing that!

Weeknight Recipes: Italian Sausage and Peppers

January 18, 2017 by Maegen Blue

Could you use some more easy, weeknight recipes? We’re trying to eat better, real food over here, but it can be challenging with our busy schedules.

That’s why I was so excited when our friends at Metropolitan Market asked if I’d like to give one of their weeknight recipes a try. They have some great tools on their website to help you find and save all kinds of yummy sounding recipes.

We tried the Italian Sausage and Peppers. My husband, my teen, and I all loved it. Our friends at the Metropolitan Market suggest you serve it with polenta or a crusty bread. We went ahead and had both-all the better for sopping up the balsamic goodness. Henry wasn’t a fan of the peppers, but he loved the sausage and the polenta. If you’d like to try it, too, we have the easy recipe right here. I also have a few notes on prep for you. [Read more…]

Meet Gig Harbor Co-Operative Preschool

January 17, 2017 by Maegen Blue

Gig Harbor area readers, if you’re looking for a great preschool, be sure to put Gig Harbor Co-Op on your list of go-sees. We’ve heard from so many readers who have told us this has been the best preschool in Gig Harbor for their kids and the whole family!

The school has been serving area kiddos for 62 years, and features a play centered curriculum and inquiry based learning. Caring, credentialed teachers bring out the unique gifts in each child. Parents take turns volunteering in the classroom, which means tuition is low, and the adult to child ratio is great!

If you’re a long time reader you might remember that I did a similar program with my boys, and I can tell you honestly that the boys and I gained lifelong friends.

They are currently enrolling for all classes, with a special invitation for 2 year olds. Problem solved alert: Potty training is not required!  That class is Thursday/Friday 9:30-11am.

The 3s class is Monday- Wednesday 9:30-1130am, and 4s is Monday- Thursday 12:30-3pm (Monday is optional).
You can learn lots more about their philosophy, their teachers, and much more, here at their website or on their Facebook page. You’ll also see some serious cuteness!

You can also check it out for yourself at their upcoming open house on January 26th from 10AM-12!

Can’t make it? You can always talk to the friendly membership chair and schedule a visit anytime! Just give them a call at 253 858 6911 or email membership@ghcp.org Tell them you saw them here!

January 10, 2017 by Maegen Blue

Hey, Tacoma, have you tried this fun new pool yet?

If you could stand be under some Warm water, it might be just the ticket. It’s the People’s Pool on Hilltop in Tacoma. It’s the area’s newest, indoor public pool, and the only one in the area with an indoor spray pad for little ones. In addition to the spray pad, cool features include

A three-lane lap pool
A small version of a lazy river minus tubes called a current channel
Floating pads for walk-on-water play
Two, poolside basketball hoops

There are also two party rooms, two family changing areas/restrooms, and one additional restroom. Read on for directions, hours, and a tip on when you can go for FREE!
