South Sound Weekend Kids’ Calendar: Family Fun and Things To Do October 21st, October 22nd, and October 23rd!

We’re especially excited about how many free things there are to do around here this weekend! Plus, bargain hunters won’t want to miss the JBF sale at the Puyallup fairgounds. Details on that plus free community festivals, outdoor adventures, and Halloween happenings are all right here!

Multiple Days

Just Between Friends Sale at the Puyallup fairgrounds  Huge! kids’ consignment sale. Save big on gently used clothes, toys, and gear. See their site for a free admission pass. Never shopped this one before? Read our post here for newbies.

Friday

Friday is a big day for storytimes. We don’t list them all due to space, but check your library if you need something to do today.

Harvest Fest at Portland Avenue Community Center 6:30-9  Free commuity events with creepy crafts, a kooky carnival, and much more fun!

Hoot n Howl Event at Northwest Trek  Tour the park at night, plus treats, crafts, and other fun  Also Saturday  Tickets are 12.00 to 14.00 and include a short tram ride 6-10PM

Family Night at the Lakewood Family YMCA. Free and open to the public  carnival games and fun today

Kids’ Takeover at WiggleWorks  The kids will be safe, fed, and having a ball for probably less than you’d pay the sitter! Registration and fees required; there are a few spots left as of this writing. They’re Awesome sponsors; tell ’em we sent you!

Saturday 

All Over

Lego Bricktober Build and Play Event at Toys R Us 1-3 Come in and see who can buid the tallest tower! I’m not clear on whether this anything other than a play session. If you go, lt us know!

Storytime at Barnes and Noble stores Most area stores do a free, weekly storytime at 11AM; however, we do suggest calling yours to confirm first, as we have found participation to be inconsistent. It’s a Halloween story today.

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Craft Stores  Make yarn ghosts today. 10AM-12  2.00 per half hour session

South King County

The Emperor’s New Clothes in Auburn Tickets are a reasonable 8.00 to this fun classic

Fright Fest at Wild Waves  Rides,haunted houses, scare free area for kids under 12 and live entertainment.

Salmon spotting on the Cedar River Trained naturalists will help kids spot salmon returning to spawn  Every weekend in October at four locations-link takes you to a detailed post.

Visit the HCC Mast Center at Redondo   Touch tanks with sea critters free and open to the public Saturdays from 10AM-2

Light of Christ Community Garden in Federal Way offers their pumpkin patch, plus photo ops, bake sale, and more *See the bottom of this post for a link to our complete pumpkin patch list*

Puyallup/Orting/Graham/Greater Pierce County

Kids’ pumpkin painting party at Urban Timber  coffee in Sumner Kids 12 and under are invited to come paint a pumpkin; pumpkins and supplies included  2PM

Decorate your own trick or treat bag at the Bonney Lake Library  2PM  Free, drop-in event. Supplies provided; kids are invited to come in costume

Rogers HS junior cheer clinic  30.00 includes instruction, pom-poms, and a performance. See the Google Doc at the link for more details.

Lego storytime at the Puyallup Library 11AM Free, drop in program. Hear  short stories and enjoy building time. Every Saturday

Kids’ Night Out at Mel Korum Y  Available to members and non members  Fees and registration required

Tacoma

Haunted Theater at Tacoma Ballet  Backstage tour and short, themed dances. Magical not spooky! Ongoing event with various dates and times, but tickets go fast.

Fall Safety Day at the West Pierce Fire Department 10AM-1 Free pumpkins for kids while supplies last, plus safety information and games. Bring cash if you’d like to purchase a custom fitted helmet; free car seat checks also available.

Paper Trails at King’s Books A celebration of all things paper! Hands-on projects for adults and kids

Build a Bug craft at the Moore Library  12   This looks cute!

Kidz Code Club at the main branch of the Tacoma Public Library  Kids 7-17 are invited to learn how to code, develop websites, and more. Programs include Scratch, Minecraft, and others. Kids should bring their own laptops (Call the library in advance if you need to borrow one). Kids must be accompanied by an adult. 9:30AM self paced, free Ongoing event

Ten Year Anniversary Celebration at Tacoma’s Enviro House tours, refreshments, meet Scooby-Doo 10AM-4PM

Family nature walks with Metro Parks Tacoma  Join volunteer naturalists on a free nature walk Not suitable for strollers; perfect for ages 3 and up. 1PM at the Tacoma Nature Center today

Pier Peer in Tacoma 7:30-9 Nightime event for ages 8 and up. Requires pre-registration/8.00 per person  See sea creatures brought up by divers and drawn to the dock lights

Black Cat Fun Run  5 mile fun run or 2.5 mile family dash  Registration and fees required

South Tacoma/ Spanaway/Lakewood/Steilacoom/Tillicum 

Woof, Woof Walk, Spanaway Park  Bring your costumed canine pal for a fun walk around Spanaway Park. Seriously, I LOVE a dog in a costume! Who doesn’t?! Join the Pierce County K-9 Unit for a 1.5 or 3 mile walk along paved trails, suitable for all ages and abilities.

Bi-Lingual Block Play at the Parkland/Spanaway Library  Drop in and build! Open to all with a special invitation to Spanish speaking families today.

Children and all ages shows at the Science Dome presentations and shows on the overhead dome at the area’s only indoor, digital planetarium. Great, low cost, indoor activity-we really recommend the children’s version! Bring cash-no cards can be accepted at the venue. 6.00 as of this writing for kids, free for grown ups You can also reserve tickets online.

Olympia/Lacey/Beyond

Olympia Family Theater  presents Elephant and Piggie’s We Are In A Play based on the Mo Wilem’s books.

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center  The center is free and hosts special activities every Saturday.  Earthquake theme today.

Visit the South Sound Estuarium   open 11-4 weekends
