We are so grateful for all of the amazing Moms who are dedicated readers of Sounds Fun Mom! In our feature, Moms Around the Sound, we highlight some of these women and sharing their lives with you. Our goal is to celebrate Moms (and Dads!) from all walks of life. This month, meet Tash, a creative dreamer with BIG ideas living in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood.
Tell us about your family.
My husband Ike and I have been married for 9 years and we have a 3 year old daughter, Wisdom. Ike and I are work from home full time business owners and creatives, so we spend a lot of time traveling and working on our dream. We also have a house full of fun as our 3 cousins live with us, a 24 year old, a 21 year old and and a 1 year old.
Tell us about yourself. What are your passions, dreams or goals? What achievements are you most proud of?
I am passionate about living life on your own terms by following your goals and dreams, whatever they might be and really grabbing hold of your version of the American dream. I am passionate about young people and spend a lot of time sowing into the lives of young girls in our community. What I am most proud of is using my life to glorify God and to bless other people. I know that I am loving people the way that God has called me to.
How would you describe your parenting style? What parts of parenting have been most rewarding, surprising or challenging for you?
I am a free-spirited parent. I never imagined how challenging structure would be. We are not very structured people. We do things when and how we like to do them when we feel fit to do them and that isn’t always the best pattern to set for a child. Our daughter has adjusted so well to our spontaneous lifestyle.
Tell us about your community. How long have you lived in the South Sound? What about your town do you love?
I was born and raised in the South Sound, and my goal was always to raise my family here. We live in the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, and we love it. The landscape and community is changing so much. The neighborhood is mixed and diverse both ethnically and socioeconomically. I love that we live next to young families and across the street is an inter-generational family that has lived on our block for over 50 years.
I love that Tacoma is so progressive! The city provides lots of opportunities to connect with the community and to be active. I love that Tacoma places a high value on the arts, in the city landscape, events, and in the shops that are all over town.
Tell us about your favorite things in the South Sound. What are the go-to spots for your family?
For shopping, we love all of the children’s Boutiques and consignments Stores, especially in the Proctor District. We are huge fans of Brooke and Nick at Urban Xchange and we love Satori Boutique. Our daughter adores Frog and Kiwi and the spraygrounds at Wright Park and Titlow Park. And, who can forget about Ice Cream Social and MSM Deli?? We also would be out of business if it weren’t for Metronome Coffee, where some of our best ideas are produced at the tables of that shop! We visit one or more of those places almost every single week and they are staples for our family!
Love hearing about other Moms Around the Sound? We would love to meet even more of you in person! We have had so much fun connecting with our readers at our Playdates in the Park this summer. We’ve got another event tomorrow and we would love to see you there! Click here for all the details.
