Our favorite thing about Spring are all the baby animals that are out and about! Last Friday, Point Defiance Zoo introduced Tacoma to its brand new clouded leopard cubs, born just three weeks ago on March 30! I know you can’t hold in your oohs and ahhs looking at these sweet ones!
Now you can see them in person at the zoo! “We are thrilled that our visitors will be able to see these rare cubs and, hopefully, walk away inspired to take action to help save clouded leopards in the wild,” Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium Education Curator Karen Povey said. “These animals’ homes are slowly being swallowed by palm oil plantations.”
The cubs will be on view daily at 10:00am and 1:30pm in the Cub Den at the Cats of the Canopy exhibit. The triplets’ feeding times will change as they grow, so be sure to check the Zoo’s Facebook page for updates.
The cubs don’t yet have names! You can vote on the cubs names here! The proposed names, inspired by Asian herbs and spices, are Cassia and Saffron for the female cubs and Basil, Coriander (“Cori”), Chili and Masala for the male cubs.
If you’ve never been to the zoo before, be sure to check out our Guide to Visiting the Point Defiance Zoo with kids! If you’ve got a preschooler, you’ll want to check out the Critter Club on Thursdays and Fridays. Get the full review here! And, if you’re looking for a FREE way to gain admission to the zoo, go on a Tacoma Resident Free Day!
You know you want one more picture of those cubs!
