We’re thrilled to have Apprentice Academy in our summer camp guide again this year! Apprentice Academy is an art school in Gig Harbor with a difference! It’s taught by professional artist, Mardie Rees, and the school mission is to awaken children’s passion for art!
The curriculum is built around projects that are fun for kids and teens and includes instruction in the principles of fine art. Young artists will also learn about historical and contemporary artists while they paint, draw, and sculpt. Seriously-this is way beyond macaroni wreaths, people! Just look at these amazing descriptions.
I think you’re going to want to sign your budding artists up for all of them!
SCULPT YOUR WILD THING
(June 20-23 and July 18-21)
Let your creative beast out of its cage and try your hand at drawing and sculpting a monster of your choosing. After our designs are complete, you’ll learn how to pinch, poke, and paint your clay creation.
PAINTING A STORY
In this fun and fascinating class we’ll study the impact of shape, space, and color in composition as we develop our Jacob Lawrence paintings to tell a story. Students will follow a centuries-old technique in creating a ‘master copy’ of a famous artwork.
EDGAR DEGAS’ HORSES
(July 11-14 and Aug 29 – Sept 1)
Take a peek at famous artist Edgar Degas’ other side: sculpture. We will draw and model on his horse pieces and construct their sturdy equine physique out of workable wax. Join us and you’ll learn armature concepts, measuring methods and basic horse anatomy.
CARTOONING AND SPEECH BALLOONING: PEANUTS
Take a lesson in the basics of cartoon illustration and learn how to select and draw characters, storyboard a comic strip, and create a final ‘Peanuts’ project for the enjoyment of all. Get your funny on!
Popular camps do fill quickly, so don’t wait long to sign up!
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. We would LOVE it if you mentioned Sounds Fun Mom when you sign your artist up for camp!
