Have you heard there is a great new indoor playground for kids in Maple Valley? Contributing writer mom, Tiffany, checked it out!
Discovery Playtown in Maple Valley is an indoor playground for kids up to age 10 with great imaginations.
On a recent visit to Discovery Playtown with my 8-year-old son, everywhere I looked there were kids happily engaged in creative play. Boys and girls manned the fire truck, shopped for groceries, played vet at the animal hospital and ate at the Dine ‘n’ Dash Eats and Espresso.
Although the space is geared towards kids ages 1-10, the sweet spot is ages 3-6, says manager Elaine. “I have seen kids as young as one enjoy playing here,” she said. And my 8 year old son enjoyed it so much that we came back for another couple of hours of play after going home for lunch. There is definitely plenty to do.
Each store has ample space and is outfitted with lots of pretend elements, such as play food, baskets and money in the grocery, paper coffee cups and a wooden espresso machine in the deli, and smocks and hair styling tools in the beauty salon. Each store has a costume to enhance the experience. A large fire truck situated near the fire station complete with buttons to push and lights that flash was so popular that it was constantly filled with kids driving and climbing in and out.
When kids get tired of the retail area they can head over to the other side which has huge house called Lilliput Mansion which boasts a full play kitchen, living area for quiet reading and an upstairs nursery nook. The stairs also connect with the Tree Fort which has a tube slide. A camping area features a fire pit with stuffed logs and flames, flanked by camp chairs to roast pretend s’mores and hot dogs (which they have too!) A small space for crawlers is padded with mats and is tucked out of the way.
Food and drinks aren’t allowed in the play areas, but there is a small space with tables and chairs where you can sit down for a snack, either one you brought in, or one of the items available for purchase.
Although parents are supposed to supervise their own kids, (and there are plenty of sitting areas for parents, plus free WiFi) the staff was highly visible and helpful as they roamed around the play areas.
