Sticking around the South Sound for Spring Break?

 Sounds Fun Mom is here to help with a round up fun things to do with the kids around Tacoma, Auburn, Puyallup, and every other part of the South Sound this week.

Scroll down for enough fun ideas to get you through a week and then some whether you have little or big kids! I do ask that you use the provided links in all our posts to double check details and times. During holiday/break weeks they do often change. 

We have ideas by day and then some fun that works anytime!

Spring Break fun with Kids Tacoma

All Week/Multiple Days

The Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is doing special activities to celebrate the Pacific Seas Aquarium all month long  Look for Mon/Wed Dives & Feeds, Tuesday Ocean Voices speakers, Storytelling Thursdays, Art Fridays and Weekend Wonders. Included with admission

The White River Valley Museum in Auburn is offering free admission during Auburn’s Spring Break from April 10-14. Stop by the Museum for scavenger hunts, pop-up stories and crafts, and a whole lot of fun! Open Wednesday – Sunday, 12pm – 4pm. Want to visit sooner? Admission is cheap every day, and this little gem is full of hands on fun great for young children. If you’ve never been, it’s well worth a playdate.

Tiffany’s Skate Inn has specials this week

The Tacoma Rainiers home opener is the 9th with a series of home games following; this is a super kid friendly ballpark with a playground and wiffle ball area.

The Spring Fair begins April 11th!

Tuesday, April 9th

Leap Into Science – Balance at the Bonney Lake Library
Explore the concept of balance, both in our bodies and in our environments, using Leap Into Science, a program engineered with the Franklin Institute. 2-3pm

Insect Safari at the Summit Library Enjoy a rare opportunity to see many amazing preserved insect specimens up close. 3-4pm

Read to a Dog at the University Place Library Share a book with a furry friend while improving your reading skills. 4-5pm

Family Game Night with Host John McDonald at the Bonney Lake Library 6:00pm – 8:30pm

Play your favorite board game or learn a new one

KING FM’s Instrument Petting Zoo at the Auburn Library 2-3pm 

Family program, all ages welcome. Presented by Music Center Northwest and KINGFM radio.

Curious what it’s like to hold a violin bow or try a clarinet? Now you and your family can find out! Come touch, hear and play many instruments.

Wednesday, April 10th

Let’s Play Show at Olympia Family Theater   Short, daytime shows perfect for young audiences 10AM It’s old MacDonald today

Boredom Busters – Kites at the Parkland/Spanaway Library 3:30-5 Looking for something fun to do? Drop by the Library for an activity: books, art, building, games and more! This month we’ll make simple kites to enjoy in the spring weather.

Block Party! LEGO @ the Library at Covington 6-7:30pm 

Come to the library for an unstructured, creative play open-house. Stay for the entire event or pop in for a few minutes. We supply the bricks; you supply the imagination! Other building supplies and games will also be provided.

Minecraft Build Competition: Spring Break Edition at the Puyallup Public Library 10:30am-1pm

Come play for fun, or compete against other builders for prizes. The theme is a surprise until the day of the event! Library computers are available if you do not have your own device.

For ages 8-12. Space is limited and registration is required. Call the library at 253.841.5454 to register.

Wednesday Fun Day at the Moore Branch of the Tacoma Library 4-5:30pm

Drop in every Wednesday afternoon, between 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm, for a fun activity! Activities will vary each week, but will consist of Family Game Days, STEM activities, crafts and more!.

Thursday, April 11th

Birds of Prey – The Falconer at the South Hill Library 2-4pm Join falconer John Prucich for an up-close learning adventure featuring live birds of prey. Discover how raptors live and how we can help them thrive in the wild.

Crafternoon at the Summit Library 2-4:30

Choose your own crafting adventure! Try sewing, paper circuits, Perler beads, duct tape and more. All ages; under 6 with an adult.

Friday April 12th  and Beyond

Leap into Science – Families at South Tacoma  (3:00 pm – 5:00 pm)

Designed to help you think like a scientist.  Learn about balance with a variety of fun hands-on activities.

Family Craft: Spring Craft (3:30 pm – 5:00 pm) at Kobetich

After-School STEAM: Math Games at the Tillicum Library 2:30pm – 3:30pm
Join us for monthly hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) activities. Explore math with fun games and puzzles.

KnightsSTREAM – Knights of Veritas at the Summit Library 3:00pm – 4:30pm

 Get Cultured At A Museum For FREE!

Check out a free museum pass from your local library! Yep, just use your card and get in free to popular choices like the Washington State History Museum.  Or head to the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, which is always pay as you will.

The Hands-On Children’s Museum in Olympia is well worth the trip from anywhere (and aren’t you lucky if you’re close by!). They have special activities planned for all area spring break weeks including science demonstrations and live animal visits. This spot is free to EBT card holders (this post has info. on other discounts as well).

Sip and Play

Kid Friendly Coffee Shops Tacoma

If you need an escape from the house and want to drink some strong coffee while doing that, check out one of our favorite Five Kid Friendly Coffee Shops in the South Sound.

 Take a Day Trip
