Looking for a fun South Sound date location? Drop off the littles at one of the many Kids’ Night Out options around the Sound and run as fast as you can to one of these super fun date ideas.
Hit up a Museum
It’s not just for taking the kids! Museums are actually interesting spots filled with culture, history, and fun! It can be easy to miss those parts when you have littles in tow. But, when you have time to browse, read the placards, and even gaze upon the beautiful art, you will find lots of cool things to talk about with your significant other. Enjoy FREE admission to the Washington State History Museum, Museum of Glass, and the Tacoma Art Museum on the Third Thursday of each month. Here are some additional museum options available through Groupon right now:
Be a Kid Again!
Some spots you frequent may seem like they are just for kids, but why can’t you be a kid again, too? Here are just a few ideas to let your hair down and embrace the teenage dream:
- Take a spin on a go-kart at the Grand Prix Raceway in Lakewood, now 50% off!
- Jump for 2 hours at Trampoline Nation in Federal Way
- Paintball in Graham
- Rollin’ 253 Skate
- Mini Golf at Kent Valley Ice Centre
Embrace Your Inner Foodie
Happy Hour at Pacific Grill is not just an hour, it’s ALL.DAY.LONG in the bar. The food here is always on point, as is the service. My favorite thing to order is the onion rings, which are not your typical diner faire. Go with your love, or with your girlfriends. Either way, just GO to Tacoma’s most award winning restaurant.
Here are a few other quaint and sweet spots to spend a date:
Catch a Flick
The classic date activity is seeing a movie, and why not? There are some great spots to take in a film on a date, too. You can try The Grand Cinema in Downtown Tacoma, where first rate independent films are shown. There’s also the little Blue Mouse Theatre in Tacoma’s Proctor District which houses second run films for only $6. There is also the brand new Century Point Ruston Theatre. The seats are AMAZING, and aptly named the Luxury Lounger with electric powered recliners! These oversized and plush recliners will make you never want to see a movie at the cheap theater again. You can reserve your spot in advance online for an additional fee.
Opt Outside
We’ve got some great places to go hiking or nature walking around the South Sound. Try one of our Ten Great Nature Walks in the South Sound.
Another outdoor options is Point Defiance Park, recently voted one of the best playgrounds in Western Washington. There is lots here for adults, too! Geocaching in Point Defiance is a free, easy and exciting way to spend a Saturday. Plus, you get awesome views of the Sound and feel like you are so much farther away from the city than you actually are! You can also simply take a nature walk through Point Defiance, and explore the several trails in the park that have the feel of a hike, ranging in length from 1-4 miles. Views include the Olympics and Cascades, and be sure to check out the newly renovated Pagoda or the Botanical Gardens.
Recently my family and I ventured to the Pacific Bonsai Musuem in Federal Way. I loved taking in all of the different types of bonsai plants and imagining what it would be like to live in a miniature world. There were few other people there, so this could be a surprisingly romantic spot, even if it rains.
You could also go strolling along the Chihuly Bridge of Glass in Downtown Tacoma. It’s beautiful at night. And, if you go in the daytime, stop by Anthem for a super hip coffee and tea spot.
Take in a Sporting Event
The awesome thing about sporting events in the South Sound is that they are considerably cheaper than heading to Seattle. You can catch professional level sports, at a reduced price by taking in the reserve teams. Single game tickets to the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Showare Center in Kent are as cheap as $8 or spring for the suite for $30. In the Spring and Summer, catch the the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium, where parking is free and the hometown atmosphere of baseball is alive and kicking. We love watching the reserve players of the Seattle Sounders FC at Starfire in Tukwila. Concessions are super cheap, and every seat in the house is so much closer than what you get at Century Link.
