Have you been out to the shores of Puget Sound to view the Argosy Christmas ships? It’s a really fun and FREE tradition to enjoy as a family. There is live music aboard the Christmas Ship, which floats into town, escorted by other follow boats or private boats, to make a lighted Christmas parade. The ship then anchors as the musicians perform. On shore, enjoy time with family and friends around a bonfire. Bonfires will only be held at Des Moines, Redondo, Dash Point and Brown’s Point. Bring your hot cocoa and boots and enjoy this uniquely northwest tradition!
You can also board the Christmas Ship for a hefty price, with tickets ranging from $13.50-$39.
Here are the Christmas Ships stops around the South Sound. If you want to venture farther, check out the site for the full schedule.
The Pacific Sound Chorus performs on Thursday, December 10, from 7:20pm-7:40pm at Des Moines Beach Park. The ship will then make another stop at Tacoma’s Dash Point Park from 8:20pm-8:40pm. Bonfire at both locations! There is plenty of parking at the Des Moines Beach Park, but not as much at Dash Point Park. Carpool if you can!
The Olympia Youth Choir performs on Sunday, December 13, from 5:00pm-5:20pm at the Tacoma Museum of Glass. The ship will then make another stop in Gig Harbor from 6:35pm-6:55pm. A parade boat will follow the Christmas ship. In Tacoma, you will have to find parking on the street (which shouldn’t be too hard on a Sunday; also it’s free on Sundays).
In Gig Harbor, festivities begin early with Hark the Harbor at 5:45pm with carols lead by Sharon Stearnes, former organist for the Seattle Mariner’s. The Waterfront Alliance will be passing out songbooks and candles.
North Kitsap Northern Lights Choir performs on Tuesday, December 15, in Poulsbo from 7:00pm-7:20pm, Keyport from 7:45pm-8:05pm, and Lemolo from 8:20pm-8:40pm. There are still tickets available on board the Christmas ship!
The Rainier Youth Choirs perform on Thursday, December 17, from 8:00pm-8:20pm at Brown’s Point and later from 9:00pm-9:20pm at Redondo Beach. There is plenty of parking at Redondo Beach. Brown’s Point is tucked away in a neighborhood and there is minimal parking. You will likely have to park on the neighboring streets. New tickets have been released for the sailing of this Christmas Ship or the Parade Boat that follows the Christmas Ship.
