South Sound Weekend Kids’ Calendar: Family Fun And Things To Do October 30th-November 1st!

Boo! Yes, we’ve got indoor trick or treating and Halloween fun in Tacoma, Puyallup, and your neck of the woods!

But, we’ve also got tons of other fun things to do, including some ideas for those of you who may be tired of all-things-boo!

This list has non-Halloween happenings, and some harvest festivals and Halloween events. For our COMPLETE list of Halloween happenings, check the, “Fall Fun,” tab in the menu bar for carnivals tonight and trick or treating tomorrow!  For indoor trick or treating, head to this post. It’s also, “Stuck,” to our top page. For More ideas, just read on! There is no way you can’t find something fun to do this weekend!

Saturday

All Over

Monster Bash at Michael’s  Kids can make a trick or treat bag for 2.00. 9AM-3 face painting, hourly costume parades  Grown-ups must be on hand.

Fear on the Pier, MaST Aquarium, Redondo Head on down to this FREE Halloween festival with a Puget Sound theme! There will be underwater pumpkin carving, face painting, crafts, pirates, and a costume contest with prizes! 12-3

Monster Mash Party at the Covington Library 11-12 kindie rock and roll, costume parade, and fun

Harvest Festival at Northwest Church 6-9PM face painting, bounce houses, 1.00 hot dogs, tons of candy!

Greater Pierce County

Lego my library story time at the Puyallup library  11AM  Hear stories and enjoy some Lego building time! Free, drop in events perfect for children 4-8 and their families.

Pumpkin Walk at the South Hill Library 12-2  Enter your decorated pumpkin! Pumpkins must be taken to the library before 12 and participants must register (forms at the library); one entry per person

Tacoma

Alice in Wonderland at Tacoma Musical Playhouse   Wear costumes! Costume contest winner gets tickets to Junie B Jones

Family nature walk at Wapato Hills Park Join volunteer naturalists on a free nature walk. Not suitable for strollers; perfect for 3 and up. 10AM

Halloween photos and fun at Bass Pro Shops. 

Spooky Halloween storytime at the Washington State History Museum 11AM Half off for kids in costumed accompanied by paying adults

Jet City Comic Con costume contest, character appearances, and lots of fun for comic fans. Also Sunday

Play and Grow storytime at the Wheelock Library 10:30

Costume Dance Party and Parade at the Main Branch of the Tacoma Public Library

Kidz Code Club at the Main Branch of the Tacoma Public Library Ongoing program for kids 7-17 (Must be with a grown-up). Bring your own computer, or call to reserve one (limited number). Learn coding, work with programs like Scratch, Minecraft, and more

Halloween at the Seymour Conservatory at Wright Park 4-7PM 3.00 donation; crafts, games, and treats for little ones Indoors-lots of pumpkins; a good choice if you still need a (dry) photo op.

Day of the Dead Celebration at the Tillicum Library 2PM Learn about the Day of the Dead and enjoy snacks and activities.

Children and all ages shows at the Science Dome presentations and shows on the overhead dome at the area’s only indoor, digital planetarium. Children’s shows at 12:30 and 2; all ages at 3:15 . Children’s shows are interactive and shorter. Henry went to one with me and loved it. The all ages program is longer and has a question/answer session, but nothing hands on.   Tickets are free-6.00. Buy in advance of pay cash at the door. No cards can be accepted at the venue.  Shows have a, “Haunted,”  theme this week, but won’t be scary. Seriously-this is SUCH a great outing!

Lacey/Olympia

St. Martin’s University Halloween in the Halls  Kids trick or treat in the safe and dry residents’ halls at St.Martins

Downtown Olympia Halloween Visit Olympia business to collect treats and participate in a plush zombie treasure hunt!  1-4PM

Halloween Bash, Capital Mall, Olympia Trick or treating for children 10 years old and under while candy and supplies last. No full facial masks or weapons. There will also be activities, face painting, and Disney’s Royal Princesses 2-4PM

 Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center  *Link opens lengthy pdf  Free and open every weekend with environmental information and activities. Learn about, “Spooky,” creatures of the deep and make anglerfish hats.

Visit the Kennedy Creek Salmon trail and see salmon returning to spawn wear your costume and enjoy cocoa and a scavenger hunt today. Note from SFM: This will be MUDDY. Make sure your costume comes with a coat and boots!

Children’s Harvest Festival, Olympic View Baptist Church, University Place  5:30-7PM

Visit the South Sound Estuarium interactive marine discovery! Open 11-4 weekends at their new location.

Gig Harbor/Kitsap

Trick or treat at the Indoor Farmer’s Market  9-3 Thanks reader, Megan, for the tip!

Trick or treating in downtown Gig Harbor 2-5PM at participating merchants  Note from SFM: Be sure to stop by SandCastle toys for a not-too-spooky haunted tour.

Trick or treating at Uptown

Pier Into the Night with Harbor WildWatch  Free evening event on Jerisich Dock with the naturalists from Harbor WildWatch. See what creatures divers bring up!  3-6

Our town family day at the Harbor History Museum 1-3PM Mexico is the theme today. Learn about the Day of the Dead and try your hand at traditional paper crafts.

Dia de los Muertos event at the Tacoma Art Museum  FREE community festival with music, dance, and more. Free museum admission Terrific community festival! Note from SFM: Elsewhere in the museum there is an exhibit related to artistic responses to AIDS. You may not want to visit this section with young children due to the content. Don’t miss the art studio on the main floor!
