South Sound Weekend Kids’ Calendar: Family Fun And Things To Do September 11th-13th!

It looks like we’re getting some bonus summer weather to end the first week of school for your big’ uns.  If you need something great to do with the kids, we’ve got a whole list of ideas for your South Sound family right here! There’s a little something going on in Puyallup, Lots of free fun in Tacoma, and something great where you are, too! If someone at your house loves trucks, big rigs, or things that go, we really do Insist you hit Touch a Truck at Sprinker!

Don’t forget we have an awesome list just like this every Friday, just for South Sound families, and tons of other fun ideas every other day of the week!

All Weekend 

It’s fair time in Puyallup. Read this post if you need tips on how to save, what to see, where to park, or anything else!

Friday

Learn about wolves in Washington at the Lacey Timberland Regional Library 7PM. It says adults and teens. I think interested tweens would probably be welcome.

It’s Tween Night with our sponsors at Trampoline Nation (Teens tomorrow).

Saturday

All Over

Grandparents’ Day story time at Barnes and Noble stores. 11AM.  We have found participation to be inconsistent even when stores are listed as participating, so we suggest using the link to check for a location near you and then calling to confirm.

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Craft Stores  It’s a bird feeder from 10AM-12  2.00 per half hour session

We’re getting some bonus summer! I’ve updated the sprayground/water park list to indicate which cool spots are still open.

South King County

Seattle Children’s Open House and Health Fair  helmet fittings, live music, and teddy bear check-ups. How cute is that?

Corduroy Beat appearance at South Center Barnes and Noble 11AM A special Grandparents’ Day storytime is also scheduled

Visit the HCC Mast Center at Redondo   Touch tanks with sea critters free and open to the public Saturdays from 10AM-2

Open House and 9/11 Memorial Dedication with the Maple Valley Fire Department

Puyallup/Sumner/Greater Pierce

Superhero/Military Appreciation event at the South Hill Mall   Vendors, swag bags, and appearances by Captain America, Spider Man, and Batman from 12-3. Free event.

The sprayground by the library IS scheduled to be open for one bonus weekend if you need to cool off!

Tacoma/South Tacoma/ Spanaway

Yes, your spraygrounds are on!

Touch a Truck in Spanaway. Do not miss this free event for your little vehicle lovers!

Pooch Pool Party at Stewart Heights  Dogs get to swim in the pool before it’s drained for the season! New this year is an option to do a two mile fun run first, and then have access to a runner only swim time (for the dog-people don’t get to swim). As you can imagine, there are some rules to this event you’ll want to review.

Play and grow storytime at the Wheelock Library

Visit the Job Carr Cabin Museum in Old Town Open 12-4 Wednesdays-Saturdays through September; 1-4 on the same days October-June  Small, cabin replica   A quick outing, but fun for children and free (donations welcome).

Tour the lighthouse keeper’s cottage and museum at Brown’s Point Lighthouse Park 1-4PM   Much more fun continues below! Keep reading! 

Crafts of the Past at Ft. Nisqually  1800s era crafts and trades are demonstrated each weekend. Included with fort admission. We think the fort is of most interest to school age children, but kiddos of all ages will love exploring the towers. It’s Native American beadwork today from 11AM-5PM  Also Sunday

Children and all ages shows at the Science Dome presentations and shows on the overhead dome at the area’s only indoor, digital planetarium. Great, low cost, indoor activity-we really recommend the children’s version! Bring cash-no cards can be accepted at the venue. 3.00 as of this writing Children’s show is Pluto today; all ages is From Dream To Discovery

Join the Nisqually Land Trust for an easy nature walk near Ohop Creek in Eatonville. Registration required

Olympia/Lacey/Beyond

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center  The center is free and open every Saturday. Make a card for Grandparents’ Day today.

Visit the South Sound Estuarium   open 11-4 weekends-You may want to call first; they may be doing something in conjunction with Harbor Days.

Harbor Hounds Charity Dog Walk

You may have to cross the bridge for organized fun this week, but it sure looks gorgeous outside! We suggest heading to Kopachuck, Narrows Beach, or Sunrise Beach, and getting in a little bonus summer time! Do let us know if we missed something great!

Sunday

Downtown to Defiance  Walk, Run, Bike, or Stroll on the Ruston waterfront during a special open streets event with no cars! Other activities along the route-do as much or as little as you choose. Free!

Open Trails at the Morse Preserve in Graham  Monthly opening; short but easy nature trails in this preserved space. Kids will like the bird watching tower and boardwalk.
