South Sound Weekend Kids’ Calendar: Family Fun And Things To Do October 31st-November 2nd!

Boo! Yes, we’ve got indoor trick or treating in Tacoma, Puyallup, and your neck of the woods!

But, we’ve also got tons of fun things to do for the rest of the weekend, including pumpkin smashing, salmon spotting, and quality kids’ theater!

You’ll find a list just like this-just for the South Sound-every Friday morning!

Saturday

All Over

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Michael’s offers 30 minute craft sessions for kids for 2.00 from 10-12:oo.  It’s a thankful turkey craft.

Kids’ Club at the Home Depot 9-12 Arrive early for these popular, free building events for kids

  Story time at Barnes and Noble   Many Barnes and Noble locations host free, weekly story time events at 11AM.   Olympia seems to participate regularly; You can meet Skippy Jon Jones at Lakewood! I always encourage you to call your store to confirm participation, as it is really inconsistent in this chain.

South King County

Visit the HCC Mast Center  at Redondo   The center and its touch tanks of sea critters are free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2

Hansel and Gretl

Hansel and Gretel at Auburn Avenue Theater   This looks super cute, and tickets are a very reasonable 8.00  2PM

Greater Pierce County-Puyallup, Orting

Day of the Dead Celebration in Sumner  Decorate a sugar skull and enjoy some cocoa. Free, but requires registration  1-3PM

Lego my library story time at the Puyallup library  11AM  Hear stories and enjoy some Lego building time! Free, drop in events perfect for children 4-8 and their families.

Tacoma

Opening day of Charlotte’s Web at Tacoma Musical Playhouse  Various show times November 1st-9th. The first two performances today include special events-pigs! and more

Arts of the Fur Trade at Ft. Nisqually 11AM-4PM  Re-enactors create 1800s fort life with demonstrations of basketry, spinning, and more. Tickets are 5.00-8.00; children 4 and under are free.

Family nature walk at Titlow Park Join volunteer naturalists on a free nature walk. Not suitable for strollers; perfect for 3 and up. Titlow Park at 10AM or the Tacoma Nature Center at 1PM (be sure to check out the Nature Center’s indoor exhibits, too, and they have a great playground if it isn’t pouring out).

Story time at Tacoma Libraries 10:30 Halloween at Kobetich (costumes welcome); play and grow at Wheelock. Both recommended for 5 and under, with parents

Film workshop for kids; an all day event for kids 7-12 interested in learning film making skills to enter the 90 Second Newbery Film contest. 10AM-5PM free but registration is required. Parents need to stay with children under 10.

South Tacoma/Lakewood/Spanaway

Children and all ages shows at the Science Dome presentations and shows on the overhead dome at the area’s only indoor, digital planetarium. Children’s shows at 12:30 and 2; all ages at 3:15 . Children’s shows are interactive and shorter. Henry went to one with me and loved it. The all ages program is longer and has a question/answer session, but nothing hands on.   Tickets are free-6.00. Buy in advance of pay cash at the door. No cards can be accepted at the venue.  Shows have a, “Haunted,”  theme this week, but won’t be scary. Seriously-this is SUCH a great outing!

Dia De Los Muertos  event at the Tillicum Library  Decorate a sugar skull and learn about this holiday through music, food, and crafts. 2PM

 Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center  *Link opens lengthy pdf  Free and open every weekend with environmental information and activities. Free children’s magic show today at 2PM!

Visit the Kennedy Creek Salmon trail and see salmon returning to spawn

Used book and toy sale at Lincoln Options Elementary

Visit the South Sound Estuarium interactive marine discovery! Open 11-4 weekends at their new location.

Gig Harbor/Kitsap

Crafternoon at Sand Castle Toy Store  free kids’ crafts 2:30-4:30

 Indoor/Outdoor Farmer’s Market a the old Peninsula Gardens site on Wollochet.  Pmpkin Smash event today! Pumpkins must be registered by 10:45-see whose rolls the furthest before smashing!

Pier Into the Night with Harbor WildWatch  Free evening event on Jerisich Dock. See what creatures divers bring up!  6-8PM.
