I don’t know about you, but I’m loving this, “Summer on the weekend,” thing! Soak up the sun! Head here for my list of every sprayground, wading pool, fountain, and water feature in the South Puget Sound! Most of these are still open,but there are a few exceptions. I’m working on getting it updated, but in the meantime, please use the links in the list to check before you go.
Kids’ Club at Michael’s Michael’s offers 30 minute craft sessions for kids for 2.00 from 10-12:oo. It’s spirit pom pom making today. The flyer at my store advertised free face painting with any kids’ club this month, but I wouldn’t count on that.
Visit your farmer’s market! Get your fresh on while you can!
Where the Wild Things Are Story time at Barnes and Noble We have found participation in these free, special storytimes to vary wildly, with some stores not putting anything on even when the site indicates participation. Sooooo…..if this sounds cute to you, please call your local store to confirm before you go.
Lowes Build And Grow Most locations are full, but I do see a few stores with spots. Advance registration is required for these popular, free kids’ building workshops. If your store is full, you might want to sign up for the next one at the end of the month. Or become a Sounds Fun Mom subscriber and stay in the loop!

Open House at the Maple Valley Fire Department free lunch, bouncy house, lots of fun challenges with the firefighters. Don’t miss it!
Visit the HCC Mast Center at Redondo The center and its touch tanks of sea critters are free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2
Fetch with Ruff Ruffman Event at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma-This is FULL; I’m reminding you if you saw my earlier post and registered. Missed it? Be sure to become a SFM subscriber!
Tradin’ Past and Present at Fort Nisqually Learn about the history of bartering and barter for goods or services with members of Pierce County’s Fair Tradin’. There will also be children’s activities. Admission is charged.
Moon Festival at Chinese Reconcilliation Park on Ruston Way Live, cultural entertainment, kids’ crafts and other booths The event is free, although there will be some food and retail vendors on site.

Zombie Run And Tag at Wright Park followed by movie, ParaNorman at sunset For ages 5 and up. Race is a traditional run for 25.00 or 35.00 dollars. Tag will include running from zombies! Tag is free for registered runners or 10.00-15.00 to do alone. The movie is free. You do have to register for the race or tag, and if you do it in advance, you’ll save 10.00.
Back to School with Jeff Evans at the Tillicum Library 2PM Free magic show with the popular entertainer. He’s great!
Children and all ages shows at the Science Dome presentations and shows on the overhead dome at the area’s only indoor, digital planetarium. Children’s shows at 12:30 and 2; all ages at 3:15 Children’s show is Pluto: The Forgotten Planet. These are interactive and shorter. Henry went to one with me and loved it. The all ages program is longer and has a question/answer session, but nothing hands on. It’s Dynamic Earth today. Tickets are free-6.00. Buy in advance of pay cash at the door. No cards can be accepted at the venue.

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center Free and open every weekend with environmental information and activities. Presentation on energy saving at 2PM, followed by a building tour. I think this would be of interest to older children. There are typically all ages activities available in the center all day.
Visit the new South Sound Estuarium interactive marine discovery! Open 11-4 weekends at their new location.
Harbor Hounds Dog Walk Take your 4 legged kid for a walk around downtown Gig Harbor to benefit the Prison Pet Partnership; other canine fun and games
Last day of the big Just Between Friends consignment event in Olympia Free admission and half off most items today
Crafts From the Past at Fort Nisqually Local artisans demonstrate different crafts each weekend. Included with admission. I think demos. will probably only interest older children, but kids of most ages enjoy exploring the fort. It’s tin whistles today. You can get instruction on how to play if you purchase one in the gift shop (Yes, this activity is adding up) today. Included with admission; Sunday only this week.
