Are you looking for a great preschool you can afford near Lakewood, Steilacoom, or JBLM?
Steilacoom Cooperative Preschool is joining our sponsorship team this month, and they do still have spots! Plus, if you join now, you won’t have missed a thing!
If you’ve been reading for a while, you know that I loved my co-op years with my boys. It was wonderful to be there for so many of their, “Lightbulb,” moments, and I really appreciated that because parents were involved, the adult to child ratio was great, and the tuition was super affordable.
Steilacoom Coop also has a very generous 25% discount for military families, available while funds last. I honestly don’t know of a preschool with a tuition discount this generous, and I do hope you’ll help spread the word to military families you know who might enjoy this program.
I always ask our co-op friends to share what makes their school special.
Reader mom Jennifer immediately told me about their teacher. Laurel McGiffin (Ms. Laurel) has been the teacher at Steilacoom Preschool since 1988. She is beginning her 27th (!!) year of teaching early childhood education this fall. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education and before coming to Steilacoom worked with children through the Metropolitan Parks Department of Tacoma.
Jennifer says Ms.Laurel’s love of children and her skill working with them is evident in each session of school.
Jennifer also sent along some information about the school’s unique, hands-on learning methods.
Ms. Laurel believes children learn best in an environment that allows them to touch, smell, taste, hear, and see things themselves. Learning is multi-sensory and hands-on, and gives children the confidence to discover and try new things, whether they’re creating messy art, making a new friend, or trying out careers in the dress up corner.
It’s truly a school that values the growth and development of the whole child-body and mind. There are learning centers with opportunities in art, reading, math, and more, and kids get to do a science and art activity every day! How fun is that?
If that sounds great to you, you’ll want to make time for their upcoming open house. The school is conveniently located at 8601 104th St SW, Lakewood, WA 98498 in the Presbyterian Church (the school is not church affiliated). The open house is Wednesday, September 3rd from 10AM-12PM, and it’s a great time to check out the class and meet the teacher and other parents.
If you can’t make that date, or if you have more questions about the school, or what’s involved in being a co-op parent, you can check out the school website here, or call 253 905 6009. You can also email steilacoomcooperativepreschool@gmail.com! School starts the week of September 15th, so you’ve still got time, but don’t wait long!
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. I would LOVE for you to mention Sounds Fun Mom when you call or visit!
