You can get a half day at the Point Defiance Zoo for half price on July 18th!
We love the zoo here at SFM, but it is one spendy outing. I truly recommend investing in an annual pass. While it’s a good chunk of change, it pays for itself in just a couple of visits, and then you can go whenever you want! It’s really nice when you have young children because you can leave for a nap without feeling like you have to get your money’s worth! We usually pay for ours with Christmas money from the grandparents.
The one exception to this advice is if you are a resident of the City of Tacoma and you can take advantage of (and don’t mind sticking to) monthly free days. You do need photo id and proof of residence for these.
Otherwise, you can save a few bucks with online purchasing, and your kids may score a free day with a paying adult if they’re doing a library summer reading program. At one time there was a bogo admission in the Entertainment Book (I don’t have a current one-if you do, and you can check, that would be great)! Other than those, discounts to the zoo are just really unusual. That’s why I think this is a great opportunity for those of you who just can’t swing the annual membership right now.
The zoo closes early on the 18th to prepare for their big gala, so you’ll need to finish up your visit by 2PM, but I think that should be plenty of time if you arrive early! You can get more information here.
Btw, a few of you have written to ask about discounts on zoo memberships. The only one I’ve ever seen is right around holiday time-Black Friday usually-last year it was a modest discount on the Deluxe Family pass.
Are you regular zoo goers? I’d love to hear your best tips!
