Updated for 2015
This is one of those posts I’m going to ask you to consider sharing.
Many area schools are officially on summer break.
Unfortunately, for many children this means less dependable meals without a daily school lunch.
That’s why I want to make sure you know (and share) how to find a free, summer lunch program in your area. These are funded by the USDA, and they’re available for any child under 18, even those too little for school, and no, they won’t ask for any income check or id.
Many of these programs also provide activities for the kids. We’re blessed not to need the support of the lunch program, but we’ve had a good time doing the activities at the park by the Fife pool (You really can’t beat spirited young people leading your kids in activities for FREE, now can you??) Many other communities run their programs at parks with kids’ concerts or popular spraygrounds or playgrounds. Read on for easy links to find a program near YOU….
The full list of summer meal locations through Metro Parks Tacoma is here. If you have a Tacoma preschooler, make sure you’ve also checked out the Communities in Schools program which provides FREE two hour summer learning sessions just to get Tacoma kiddos school ready!
To find a summer meals program near you, you can go here to Parent Help123 and search for a summer meals program by zip code. You can also call your local school district directly if you have trouble finding a location. I promise they’ll know how to help.
For more summer fun, be sure to check the, “Summer Guide,” up in the menu bar. We’ve got lists of Bible Schools, Spraygrounds, 1.00 movies, and much, much more! I also have lots of other fun posts coming your way soon. Thanks for sharing this post, and thanks for sharing Sounds Fun Mom. We’d love to be your summer solution!
