It’s a great weekend for family fun around the South Sound. The list this weekend is full of outdoor adventures and Mother’s Day Fun in Puyallup, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Olympia, and just about everywhere else around the South Sound-and many of them you’ll only find listed here. Lots of them are Free, too!

All Over
Kids’ Club at Michael’s Michael’s offers 30 minute craft sessions for kids for 2.00 from 10-11:30. They are no longer listing the crafts on their site, so your best bet is to check with your store. You may also want to read about their Passport to Imagination summer program-open for registration now.
Visit your farmer’s market! SFM recommends the Puyallup market. It really is amazing. Just be prepared to find street parking.

Kent International Festival entertainment, booths, ethnic food sampling, kids’ activities At the Showare Center, free admission
Touch tanks at HCC Mast at Redondo Free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2 Reader Joanna wrote in to say they Were able to touch creatures in the touch tanks last week.
Family Green Fest in Federal Way information on green resources, free document shredding, and face painting and a chance to climb in a recycling truck for kids!
The sprayground at Les Gove in Auburn is on, and readers report the surface has been improved and seems less slick. Yay! Leave a report if you go!
Greater Pierce County- Puyallup/Sumner/Orting/Graham

Friends of the Bonney Lake Library Used Book Sale
Mother Earth Fair at the Puyallup Fairgrounds information and workshops on various sustainable lifestyle topics. Adult tickets are a pricey 25.00, but may be worth it if this is of interest to you. The kiddos are free.

Northwest Native Community Celebration at the Tacoma Art Museum Free admission to the museum, plus hands-on art activities and demonstrations
Crafts from the past at Fort Nisqually Local artisans demonstrate different crafts each weekend through September 3rd. Included with admission. Visit the new South Sound Estuarium 10AM-3PM
Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center The center is free and open to the public every weekend There are two workshops today on identifying water bugs. I don’t know whether spots are available. You can call (360) 867-2073. You should be able to visit regardless. Note link opens a lengthy pdf.
Gig Harbor Area
The trolley is back! Readers recommend combining an Uptown visit (Menchies?) with downtown exploration with a trolley ride in between! .50, free for kids 5 and under.

Gig Harbor Farmer’s Market is now open! Kids music is on the calendar for 9AM, though there aren’t any other details on that.

Grand opening of the new SERA playground and sprayground by the STAR center in South Tacoma Farmer’s market will also be open; celebration will be from 1-3PM; sprayground will be on until 8. This is a really cute new playground; I have a review coming next week! Yes, I’m updating the complete sprayground list now. All of the free spraygrounds in Tacoma are on!
