Here is a list of things to do with the kids on Memorial Day, as well as ceremonies that we think should be reasonably family friendly.

Monday, Memorial Day, the 29th
I can’t speak to how kid friendly any of these are, but they’re all local and open to the public, and I think any child who can be attentive for reasonable stretches of time would be very welcome. Let me know if you’ve been to any of these.
Memorial Day ceremony in Sumner at 10AM on the 29th
Ceremony at Mountain View Funeral Home at 2PM in the Garden of Honor open to the public, will include military speakers and performances; light food
Memorial Day ceremony in Tacoma at War Memorial Park We heard from readers that their kids did well at this one last year.
Other area Memorial Day observances -The largest in the area is the one at Tahoma National Cemetery *Look for the link to the pdf
Family and Kids’ Events on Memorial Day
Memorial Day race at Emerald Downs Note, their Salute to the Military Day with free admission with military id is Sunday the 28th.
Free BBQ at the Old Cannery in Sumner Free hotdogs and soda 12-3 Saturday, Sunday, and Monday Tip: If you buy a couch, this will no longer be a frugal outing-trust me.
Special Monday opening at the Washington State History Museum. See, “Gridiron Glory,” the new traveling exhibit with the best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. You could try to get a free museum pass. If you can’t score one, or don’t want to hassle with it, your advance purchase of two adult tickets comes with some nice discounts for other Tacoma area fun (bogo entree at the Harmon among others). Regular admission for kids, seniors, and members of the military is 8.00. The exhibit will be at the museum through September 10th.
Half price admission for military families at the Hands-on Children’s Museum in Olympia. Lots of fun activities for all!
