South Sound Weekend Kids Calendar: Family Fun And Things To Do May 2nd-4th

It’s a great weekend for family fun around the South Sound. The list this weekend is full of outdoor adventures, fairs,  and more fun things to do in Puyallup, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Olympia, and just about everywhere else around the South Sound-and many of them you’ll only find listed here. Lots of them are Free, too!

Comic Book Day Free

All Weekend
Just Between Friends Sale at the Puyallup fairgrounds. Huge kids’ consignment event. Free admission passes and info. at the link.

 Saturday

All Over

Kids’ Workshop at the Home Depot   It’s a planter for Mother’s Day   Advance registration is now required for these popular, free kids’ building events.

Free Comic Book Day  I’ve listed several events by area below, but you can use the link to find other fun spots to score your free comic! Go early.

Toys R Us Lego Event  12-2  Kids make and take free, small Lego builds  They’re Star Wars themed today.

Michael’s Kids Club 2.00 for half hour sessions 10-11:30 Michael’s seems to have, “Improved,” their website, so I can’t tell what the project is. You may want to call your store before you go.

South King County

Rely on Renton Family Fair activities, community organizations, children’s entertainer, Eric Ode  Part of the annual Spring Festival

 Kentucky Derby Day at Emerald Downs  Wear a hat for free admission; family activities including pony rides and face painting

Touch tanks at HCC Mast at Redondo  Free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2  Reader Joanna wrote in to say they Were able to touch creatures in the touch tanks last week.

Greater Pierce County- Puyallup/Sumner/Orting/Graham

 Free Comic Book Day at the Puyallup Public Library Free comic books for kids, while supplies last. You are encouraged to go early, though last year they seemed to have a good supply. There are also cos play events today, but those seem better for older kids.  There are kid friendly comic titles.

South Hill Library Used Book Sale

Tacoma/South Tacoma/Lakewood

Family Nature Walk at Wapato Hills Park 1PM Join volunteer naturalists on a free nature walk. You are asked to register. Great for ages 3 and up; not suitable for strollers.

Free Comic Book Day at University Place, Steilacoom, and Lakewood libraries

Children and all ages shows at the Pierce College Science Dome/planetarium The children’s show is Magnificent Moons Children’s show at 12:30 or 2PM; all ages at 3:15 is on black holes.  CASH Only at the door-you can use charge cards if you buy tickets in advance.

Gig Harbor Area

Gig Harbor Farmer’s Market is now open!  Kids music is on the calendar for 9AM, though there aren’t any other details on that.

Lighthouse Nutrition hosts a kids’ story time 11AM  Stories have healthy food themes

 Water’s Xtreme Journey Exhibit continues at the Harbor History Museum

Craft at Michaels The Gig Harbor store does a craft for children every weekend.

 Dupont/Lacey/Olympia

Lacey S.T.E.M fair and electric car races at Huntamer Park hands-on activities for kids, demonstrations, and more fun showcasing the work of students from around Thurston County

Lacey Community Bike Fair and Rodeo free helmets, hot dogs, and more fun! Free parks event with same day registration

Comic May-Hem at Tumwater Timberland Library free comic books suitable for ages 4 and up, plus board games, cos play and moe

Community Fun Fair and Kids’ Fishing Derby at Columbus Park  Crafts, games, vendors; free hot dog lunch for kids while supplies last. Kids are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear. Call to register for a spot.

Visit the new South Sound Estuarium  10AM-3PM   Craft project between 12-3

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center  Free and open to the public every weekend. The program at 2PM is for kids 5 and up. It’s on, “Green Chemistry,”-presenters will show kids how to make eco friendly dish soap and other products.

Kids’ Cooking Class at the Bayview School of Cooking Call to register 30.00 For kids 3-8  Cinco De Mayo themed today for ages 5-8

Scholastic Books Warehouse Sale in Tumwater   I’ve never had problem with admission to these slaes, but if you’re concerned, register as a homeschooler.

Sunday

Epic Party -Star Wars event for kids with the Daffodil Festival in Puyallup at the YMCA. Sorry-you cannot buy tickets at the door. I’m hoping you are reading this Friday or Saturday! Go here to get yours!

May the Fourth Be With You at the Summit Library 2-4PM  crafts, costume contest, pictures with members of the 501st Legion 2-4PM

Visit the new South Sound Estuarium in Olympia  10AM-3PM   You may want to check on this first-I haven’t confirmed

Mother’s Day Card Making in the art studio at the Hands-On Children’s Museum in Olympia Free with admission
