South Sound Weekend Kids Calendar: Family Fun and Things to Do for February 21st-23rd!

Need something to do around the South Sound this  weekend? Here’s a whole list of activities with lots for your family to choose from!

  Saturday

All Over

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores  It’s a foam butterfly craft today. 2.00 per child/ sessions start on the half hour from 10AM-11:30  For ages 3 and up

Lowe’s Build and Grow  Advance registration is required for these popular, free programs. Most stores are full (Hopefully you signed up when I first mentioned it), but a few still have spots.

Worth the Trip

The snow play area at Paradise at Mt.Rainier is open! Maybe?Call first-There has been so much snow that there have been frequent road closures. Check conditions before you go.

Scholastic Books Warehouse sale in Auburn

Auburn Avenue Kids Presents Goldilocks 2PM Lively performance great for young children Tickets are 8.00

Touch tanks at HCC Mast at Redondo  Free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2  ****You can still look at the critters in the tanks, but you cannot touch them currently because of concerns over a disease that has been affecting the sea stars.

Tacoma/ Puyallup/Greater Pierce

Lego my library at the Puyallup Public Library  story time followed by building with the library’s Legos. 11AM

Chili Chase Fun Run at the STAR Center in South Tacoma  Kids’ dash, 5K, bowls of chili after. Day of registration available 35.00 adults and 20.00 kids. You do get a beanie! Kids’ dash starts at 9AM.

Read with a Dog at the Puyallup Public Library Kids can drop in and practice their reading with patient listener, Coach, today. 1PM

Children’s Dental Health Day at the South Hill Mall 10:30-2:30 in the center court  Free dental screenings and flouride, appearances by the tooth fairy and chompy the carrot. Children who bring in a drawing of a Day at the Dentist can be entered to win a zoo membership. Qualifying children may receive additional, free dental services.

Bonney Lake Library Used Book Sale

Slavery in the Northwest: The Charles Mitchell Story  Charles Mitchell was brought to Washington State as a slave, where he made a break for freedom. Storyteller Eve Abram shares his story 2PM Free event; ages aren’t listed, but I think it would be suitable for older children.

Block Play at the Summit Library 2-4PM

Buy one get one free admission to the History Museum in the month of February when you wear Seahawks gear!  Very cool Seahawk totem there now!

Family Nature Walk at McKinley Park  Metro Park staff and volunteers lead free nature walks. Free, but you’re asked to sign up. Not suitable for strollers or children under 3. 10AM
Pier Peer  Nightime event where kids can see sea critters drawn to dock lights. Registration required; children must be 8 or up. The boys and I have done a couple of these and always had fun, although we’ve never seen many creatures!

Children and all ages shows at the Pierce College Science Dome/planetarium The children’s show is on Comets, Asteroids, and Meteors  Children’s show at 2PM; all ages at 3:15 is Black Holes

Father/Daughter Dance at Sprinker Rec Center  Call ASAP to see if there are still tickets. You will probably not be able to get in day of.

Gig Harbor/Kitsap

Craft at Michaels The Gig Harbor store does a craft for children every weekend.

Looks like you may have to cross the bridge for organized fun this weekend. If you’d prefer to go the other direction, my friend Diane has some fun ideas for you at Macaroni Kid Kitsap

 Dupont/Lacey/Olympia

The House at Pooh Corner from Olympia Family Theater  various dates and times through the 23rd

Paper Airplane Flight School at the Olympic Flight Museum7.00 fee includes professional instruction, materials, and snacks. Contest follows. Call for more details.

Oly Pie Fest  Eat a slice of homemade pie for 3.00 or 3 cans of food. Al proceeds benefit the Thurston County Food Bank

Visit the new South Sound Estuarium  10AM-3PM

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center  Free and open to the public every weekend  Lichen activities today, including a special 10AM workshop you need to register for. Details are under the date (link opens a lengthy pdf). Probably better for older children.

Olympia School District Players present Peter Pan  various times through the 23rd

Sunday

Free Day at the Point Defiance Zoo for City of Tacoma residents. Photo id and proof of residence, such as a phone bill, is required.

The Cat in the Hat opens at the Tacoma Musical Playhouse

The House at Pooh Corner from Olympia Family Theater  Last day! 1PM

Visit the new South Sound Estuarium in Olympia  10AM-3PM

Olympia School District Players present Peter Pan  2PM last show!
