Puyallup! Grab your teacher friends and homeschooling pals, find your car keys, and go, go, go, to Children’s Bookshop on River Road.
Facebook reader Danielle wrote in this morning to say she’d heard they’re going out of business. Well, the boys and I stopped in today and confirmed that they’re, indeed, planning on closing up after Friday, and the whole store is 50% off-including items like Playmobile, Lego, and Brio trains!
While this is a Huge bummer for Puyallup and the greater area, which really will have nothing to replace it, it’s also an opportunity for those of you who teach and homeschool to grab some deals.
But, wait…it gets better. Right now, there is a Groupon for Children’s out, and Yes, they’re still honoring it. That means you can get 50% off merch. already reduced 50%. For those of you who aren’t math types, that is not 100% off (nice try), but it is a whopping 75% off on high quality teaching materials and playthings that are almost never discounted. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about the Groupon. It kind of feels like kicking a guy while he’s down, kwim? But, the gal said they’d take ’em, and it’s definitely a great deal, so I’ll let you decide. If you want to grab it, the link is in my Deal of the Day page.
When we went this afternoon, the store was still nearly fully stocked. Legos were in short supply, but there were still tons of toys, teaching tools, and books. This would be a great time to pick up some gifts for your favorite educator! You may want to set a budget before you go-we spent 45.00 “Saving,” money. On the plus side, we have lots of new books to cozy up with!
I hope you’ll pass this one on to your pals who would love to shop this sale. Don’t forget there is also a Scholastic books warehouse event coming up in Auburn later this week.
They’re no longer honoring the groupon with the half off. So if you use the groupon, you won’t receive half off the merchandise. Apparently they were losing too much money from the groupon.
Hi, Lisa,
Thanks for the update. I’m not surprised to hear that.
Groupon will be glad to refund your money.
Even when I went in yesterday and used my Groupon, they did not give me the discount and then apply my Groupon. Instead, they picked items out of the bunch that I was purchasing that were close to $30 (the value of the Groupon) and rang those up separately without the 50% discount but using the Groupon (so it was still 50% off). The rest of the items they rang up on a second transaction and applied the 50% off. So the Groupon didn’t save me anything in addition to the store closing discount.
Gotcha.
Sounds like you did well!
If you’re ever not happy with the deal you get from a Groupon, they do have great customer service. Thanks for taking the time to clarify!
