Need something to do around the South Sound this  weekend? Here’s a whole list of activities with lots for your family to choose from!

Hiking with kids at Mt.Rainier

Kids can take a free hike (or ride) with naturalists from Metro Parks this Saturday. It’s just one of Dozens of ideas all over the South Sound!

Valentines for Vets  Through January 25th, stop in at Tacoma Public Library branches to make a valentine for a local veteran.

You, Me, We event in Kent  If you’re one of my South King County readers, don’t miss this Free family event Lots of booths and activities for kids; 1.00 hot dogs and 1.00 sodas available for purchase 6-9PM

Worth the Trip

The snow play area at Paradise at Mt.Rainier was scheduled to open on the 18th. Do check before you go.

It’s Mariners Fan Fest weekend. Jen over at ThriftyNorthwestMom has a great post with all the details if you’re thinking about heading to Seattle for that.

South King County

StoryBook Theater presents Goldilocks and the 3 Bears at Carco Theater in Renton shows at 11AM and 1PM today and 1 and 3 tomorrow

 Touch tanks at HCC Mast at Redondo  Free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2  ****You can still look at the critters in the tanks, but you cannot touch them currently because of concerns over a disease that has been affecting the sea stars.

Tacoma/ Puyallup/Greater Pierce

 Play and Grow Storytime at Wheelock 10:30 short story time with play and art for families with children under 5  free, drop in events

Lego My Library at the Puyallup Public Library Young builders are invited to drop in and build Lego creations inspired by stories  11AM-11:45  Intended for children 4-8, but I think if you have slightly younger or older ones who could sit and build Lego, you’d be fine.
Sportsman’s Show at the Puyallup Fairgrounds  There is a trout pond for kids. Admission is kind of pricey, and I probably wouldn’t go to this just to go, but if you have a sporty/outdoorsy type in your family headed there, I think there would be enough kid fun to take them along.
Free Day at the Point Defiance Zoo for City of Tacoma residents  Bring Photo id and Proof of residence, such as a utility bill.
Anyone can save 5.00 off zoo or Trek admission when you wear Seahawks gear!
Family Nature Walk at Wapato Park  Metro Park staff and volunteers lead free nature walks. Free, but you’re asked to sign up. Not suitable for strollers or children under 3. 10AM
Read to a Dog at the Puyallup Public Library  Kids can drop in and practice reading a few pages to a patient, canine listener  1-2
Free Family Concert with the Not-Its! at Charles Wright in University Place Don’t miss this free show open to the public with the popular preschool kindie rock group!
Morning open play with our sponsors at Bounce E House in South Tacoma  Don’t forget to check the birthday party special in my sidebar

Children and all ages shows at the Pierce College Science Dome/planetarium The children’s show is on Comets, Asteroids, and Meteors  Children’s show at 2PM; all ages at 3:15 is on the Life of Stars

Visit the new South Sound Estuarium  10AM-3PM

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center  Free and open to the public every weekend  There is a presentation on amphibians today that is Full (you may want to sign up now for some of their upcoming registration required events; these are run by the Stream Team but usually held at the LOTT center)  But folks can still visit and there will be frog mask making and a food chain activity available anytime.   link opens a detailed pdf

Kids’ Club at Michael’s  The Pt.Fosdick store does a 2.00 craft for kids every Saturday from 10-12

Date Night at Discovery Village  Registration and fees required; (253) 858-4835 call to check availability  There is also open play and a princess tea event today, but the tea party is full. (253) 858-4835

Pier Into the Night with Harbor WildWatch 6-8PM Head to Skansie Brothers Park to see sea creatures drawn to underwater lights at night  Free!

Fiddler on the Hoof  Children’s concert from the Tacoma Symphony at UPS 2:30  designed for kids 3-8, with familiar music, chances to stretch and dance, and opportunities to try out the instruments

 Free Winter Concert from the Peninsula Youth Orchestra at Peninsula High School 3PM  Would be a nice event if you have an aspiring string musician
