South Sound Kids’ Calendar: What to Do This Weekend-January 17th-20th!

Need something to do around the South Sound this  weekend? Here’s a whole list of activities with lots for your family to choose from!

 Ongoing

Valentines for Vets  Through January 26th, stop in at Tacoma Public Library branches to make a valentine for a local veteran.

 Saturday

All Over

Free entrance to Washington State parks-no Discover WA pass needed-the 19th and 20th

Free entrance to National Parks Monday, January 20th, in honor of Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores 2.00 per child for a 30 minute session. It’s a foam door hanger decorated like an alien today. For ages 3 and up 10AM-12

Worth the Trip

The snow play area at Paradise at Mt.Rainier is scheduled to open on the 18th. Do check before you go.

South King County

Family Health and Safety Fair at the Federal Way Community Center 9AM-1PM  variety of booths from area health care providers, plus fire trucks, McGruff the crime dog, and other fun for kids Free

Jugglemania show in Auburn Avenue Kids presents juggler/prop comic, Rhys Thomas. Tickets 8.00

 Touch tanks at HCC Mast at Redondo  Free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2  ****You can still look at the critters in the tanks, but you cannot touch them currently because of concerns over a disease that has been affecting the sea stars.

Tacoma/Greater Pierce

Free movie at the Grand 10AM; doors open at 9:30; limited to first 100   It’s Mr.Popper’s Penguins

Lego My Library at the Puyallup Public Library Young builders are invited to drop in and build Lego creations inspired by stories  11AM-11:45  Intended for children 4-8, but I think if you have slightly younger or older ones who could sit and build Lego, you’d be fine.
Family Nature Walk at Swan Creek Park  Metro Park staff and volunteers lead free nature walks. Free, but you’re asked to sign up. Not suitable for strollers or children under 3. 10AM
Let’s Play! event at the Tacoma Dome
try out or watch dozens of fun sporting events-from rock climbing to cup stacking! Children’s Museum will also have activities and there will be costumed Star Wars character appearances; Extra charge for unlimited zipline. 8.00 adults/free for kids/free parking at the dome
Preschool Preview at the STAR Center in South Tacoma  A variety of South Sound area preschools will be on hand. You’ll get a free pass to the adventure playground; crafts and face painting; free 10AM-2PM

Children and all ages shows at the Pierce College Science Dome/planetarium The children’s show is on Comets, Asteroids, and Meteors  Children’s show at 2PM; all ages at 3:15 is Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity

Sunday

Free entrance to Washington State parks-no Discover WA pass needed-the 19th and 20th Saltwater State Park or Dash Point are great ones to explore for a winter ramble.

    I’ve been trying to figure out what to do for my son’s first birthday at the beginning of February… We don’t know too many other kids but we have a ton of adult guests! Any ideas?! We’re in Tacoma…
