Mom Reviewed: Tacoma’s Shake Shake Shake

January 13, 2014 by Maegen Blue

Have you been to Shake Shake Shake yet? I’ve been meaning to write about this Tacoma burger spot for a while now. They opened last year, and my family and I checked them out last summer (and then checked them out again and again-you know-for science).

Shake Shake Shake

Shake Shake Shake is in the Stadium District, an area that was needing some family friendly dining destinations.

It’s got a cool retro design and, oh, yeah…..shakes.

The menu is short but kid friendly-burgers or hot dogs, fries, and ice cream treats.

It’s a burger place,so this isn’t fine dining, but it definitely isn’t fast food either.

The burgers remind me a bit of a Dick’s, if you’ve been to that Seattle spot. The fries are the shoestring kind. We tried both sweet potato and regular.

The shakes were the star as far as my kids were concerned. They’re huge and come in all kinds of inventive combinations. My kids were blown away to get the “Extras,” delivered alongside. Keep reading for the pic of Those!

And, no….they didn’t have any trouble finishing.

We were there on a warm night and ate outside. You’ll have to eat inside this time of year. It’s super cute, and I thought it had an overall vibe that was kid friendly but hip. Hipster kid friendly?  I will say every family there looked like they’d stepped out of a J Crew catalog-well done, Stadium mommas-seriously. Looking good!

The servers were young and sassy but friendly and efficient. I did get the impression they needed more kitchen help as just a few couples had them struggling a bit to get things out. Hopefully, they’ve hired a few extras by now.

Now, I’ve read some complaints about the size and the pricing. I have to be honest-my meal left me stuffed for a price that seemed totally reasonable. The patties are thin, if you’re thinking of a sit down restaurant burger style, but it’s still plenty of food, especially if you’re getting a shake (and you really must)!  In terms of cost, the burgers and fries are separate, so that may be surprising if you’re used to things coming as, “Meals.” Our total was around 40.00. But, in the words of my husband, “I’ve paid a lot more for meals a lot less tasty.” He’s a wise man-especially when he’s full of burger and shake.

Have you been here? I’d love to hear your reviews! Got a favorite family friendly spot you think deserves a feature on Sounds Fun Mom? Let me know!
