South Sound Weekend Kids’ Calendar: What to Do and Family Fun for January 3rd-5th!

Need something to do around the South Sound this  weekend? Here’s a list of events and activities with lots for your family to choose from!

12th Man tree at Zoolights

Zoolights runs nightly until 9PM through January 5th. Be sure to see the 12th Man Tree if you go!

All Weekend

Zoolights at the Point Defiance Zoo Last weekend!

The Fransiscan Polar Plaza is open for skating. Your best deal is to buy a family pack online or in store from Costco; 30.00 covers admission and skate rental for four
Monster Jam show at the Tacoma Dome
Adult tickets are 15.00-25.00  Kid are 5.00, if purchased in advance. Kid price not available day of  All tickets are 2.00 more the day of show. If you want a chance to check out the trucks up close and meet the drivers, you’ll want to go to the 2PM show on Saturday and get an additional “Pit Pass,” for 10.00.  The pit party is from 10AM-12PM. You MAY be able to get a coupon for 5.00 off select adult seats at Ford stores. Thanks, Macaroni Kid Kitsap, for that tip.
Friday

Parent’s Night Out at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma  registration and fees required
Free first Friday night at the Hands-on Children’s Museum in Olympia  Open 5-9PM
Skate at Tiffany’s Skate Inn Puyallup today 1-5PM or 7-10PM 7.00 admission; 1.00 regular skate rental; non skating supervising adults are always free. 2.00 Tuesdays coming soon!
Tween Night at Trampoline Nation 3 fun hours of jumping for the 10-13 set for just 15.00. Older and younger jumpers welcome at regular pricing.

 Saturday

All Over

Kids’ Club at Michael’s Stores 2.00 per child for a 30 minute session. It’s a key chain craft today. For ages 3 and up 10AM-12

Kids’ workshop at Home Depot  Register for these popular, free, kids’ building workshops

South King County

 Touch tanks at HCC Mast at Redondo  Free and open to the public every Saturday from 10-2  ****You can still look at the critters in the tanks, but you cannot touch them currently because of concerns over a disease that has been affecting the sea stars.

Puyallup/ Tacoma/University Place/ South Tacoma/Lakewood

Lego my Library at the Puyallup Public Library Young builders are invited to drop in and build Lego creations inspired by stories  11AM-11:45  Intended for children 4-8, but I think if you have slightly younger or older ones who could sit and build Lego, you’d be fine.
Read to a Dog at the Puyallup Public Library Kids can drop in and practice their reading with a patient, canine listener  Any time between 2-3PM. Most kids read a few pages or one story. Dalmation, Clover, is your audience today.
Lego play area at City Blocks in Freighthouse Square

Children and all ages shows at the Pierce College Science Dome/planetarium The children’s show is on Comets, Asteroids, and Meteors  Children’s show at 2PM; all ages at 3:15

City Goat Christmas Tree Event!  Watch the goats enjoy your old Christmas tree!  12-4; if you’d like to visit with them in the front pasture, it’s 3.00, or do the full petting zoo for  5.00 and a few bucks more for food (check in at the saloon). Zebra and pony rides also available.  If you just want to watch the goats eat, that’s free.

 Dupont/Lacey/Olympia

Story time at Cabela’s   The first Saturday of the month, children are invited to hear outdoor themed stories in the walled tent area. Parent of grandparent must be present. 11AM

Visit the new South Sound Estuarium  10AM-3PM

Visit the LOTT Wet Science Center  Free and open to the public every weekend  This weekend’s presentation is on finding non toxic hair and beauty products. It starts at 1PM and is best for kids 11 and up.

Holiday activities at the Hands-on Children’s Museum  A variety of holiday themed activities are included with admission. Admission isn’t cheap, but you do get a very full day of fun here.

Gig Harbor/Kitsap

First Saturday Art Walk  downtown  I don’t know how kid friendly this is, but I’d be interested in hearing from you if you give it a try!
