One of the things I love to hear from readers is that Sounds Fun Mom has become a resource for your family. Today, I want to spread some more love for my reader moms by sharing information on a serious topic.
The Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse Campaign is dedicated to spreading the word about domestic violence prevention, and you can help!
I was shocked to learn that 1 in 4 women will be affected by domestic violence in her lifetime-more than breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and lung cancer combined! Given how much quiet there tends to be around this all-too-common problem, perhaps it’s not a surprise that only half of Americans surveyed thought they’d know how to help a victim of domestic violence.
The goal of the Purple Purse effort is to change that! October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and earlier this month the Purple Purse campaign sent 1,000 little, purple purses all over the country, with the request that women pass them along as part of an ongoing conversation about this important topic. Each purse contained information cards, and all month long our friends at Allstate have been donating 5.00 every time a real or virtual purple purse has been shared and registered.
The purse, as you might have guessed, represents financial independence- an important step for women seeking to break the cycle of domestic abuse. The great news? This program has been such a hit, that Allstate has already hit their goal, donating a whopping 350.000.00 dollars to the YWCA. Awesome, right?
But, the sharing and the help doesn’t have to stop there! You can still visit the Purple Purse campaign on Facebook (and I hope you do). When you like it and share it, you’ll be part of this great campaign to spread the word and empower women. You might also just share a link to this post. Sometimes, “Passing it on,” is the best way to help!
