Exciting news for Tacoma artists-there is now a Paint Your Own Pottery spot in T-town at Throwing Mud Gallery.
I have friends who love doing this as special afternoon with their kiddos. They say it’s extra fun because you walk away with a keepsake of your day!
There hasn’t been one of these places in the Tacoma area for quite a while, so I thought those of you with crafty types would want to know!
I spoke with owner Eileen, and she let me know you can go in any time during their regular open hours. The paint your own area is run out of the gallery space. They have many bisque items to choose from, including children’s items like piggy banks and figurines priced from 5.00 up to 50.00. The children’s pieces are in the 12.00 range. Your purchase includes 2 hours of time to paint your creation. After you finish, it will be dipped in a glaze and fired, and you get to pick it up 7 days later! Fun, huh?
Eileen says you don’t need a reservation, but if there are more than four of you coming, you should call first. Now, I just never know what the SFM effect will be….but given that this isn’t a huge space, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to call even if you’re just coming as a twosome.
You should also know that they don’t do parties because the painting area shares space with the gallery. In other words, this is probably not the outing for some of you-If your kiddos tend to run around and knock stuff over with every turn, I would not do this (unless you want to find yourself owning a lot of ‘ahem….mosaic pieces)!
