Looking for big fun to end your summer? You’ll want to mark your calendar for this weekend’s Maritime Fest, a celebration of Tacoma’s working waterfront.
This year’s event has more for families than ever. The all-new kid zone will include the Big Purple Slide, the Knights of Veritas, hands-on crafting with the Daffodil Princesses, and more!
On Saturday, you can also take a very special train ride around the Port of Tacoma! The year we did this we had to wait in line for quite a while, but it was worth it for our train superfans!
You can get more information on the Saturday train rides and other rail fun here.
You may also be able to score a free boat ride on Sunday, the 24th! Woot! Now, these require tickets, and they are first-come, first served.
If you want to give it a try, here’s the detail on Sunday boat rides!
You can also get tickets on one of the tall ships-these are Realllly spending, but I bet it wold be an experience to remember!
There will also be boat building contests, a tall ships cannon battle, and of course, tons of cool boats to climb aboard and check out. While there will be vendors, admission and pretty much all the activities are FREE! We’ve gone several years and always had a good time. If you have kiddos who love pirates, water, boats, or things that go (and what kid doesn’t fall into one of those categories?), I think you’ll have fun, too!
The event is Saturday the 24 and Sunday the 25th from 10AM-5PM. You can check out all the details here. If you want to try for a train ride on Saturday or a boat ride on Sunday, I would plan on going early. Parking will likely be tight, so keep that in mind, too.
