If you’ve ever wanted to be a contestant on the Amazing Race, you may want to get in on this local version, and bonus-you don’t actually risk your life, or eat anything super gross, and you can take the kids!
It’s Walk Tacoma’s Scavenger hunt, the finale to a series of walking events from Downtown on the Go, designed to get Tacoma residents out exercising and exploring! It’s free, and no registration is required.
The event begins 4:30 Wednesday, and you can create pretty much any kind of team you’d like. You’ll decipher clues to different locations, taking photos at each stop to prove you’ve made it (You will need a camera or a camera phone). You must travel by foot or public transportation, including at least one, free link ride and one Metro Bus ride (you’ll get a coupon). The locations will all be in and around downtown, and there will be some friendly Pierce Transit folks around to help you plan your route!
I asked organizer, Meagan, how kid friendly she thought this event would be, and she told me her own kiddos who are 4 and 7 will be participating with their dad. She did say it probably wouldn’t be suitable for children who can’t walk far, and it’s probably not a good idea for the stroller set. I think kids who are readers will most enjoy the clues, but I think kids of all ages will love racing about town and riding the link. Just judge how much endurance yours have-keeping in mind that you don’t have to make it to every location.
After, there is an all ages celebration at the Social Bar and Grill beginning at 6:45.
