Olympia’s Lakefair Going on Today-Sunday! Reader Tips!

July 18, 2013 by Maegen Blue

Hey, Olympia and Lacy-it’s Lakefair time! One of the biggest area events of the year, it’s a mulit day community festival with carnivals, vendors, a parade, and fireworks!

I really wanted to do a post with some Lakefair tips and tricks because (no offense) the official website is really hard to navigate and doesn’t have much scoop.

Lakefair

So, I reached out to my awesome Facebook community and got some insider scoop on what you need to know before you go!

When to go and What to Do-It depends on what activities are important to you and how you feel about crowds.

Saturday is Kids’ Day. This part of the event is held at Sylvester Park and it’s free. The parade is also Saturday. This sounds like your best day for free, family entertainment, but it will probably be crowded.

The free, fireworks show/grand finale is Sunday.  Reader Amy says this gets really crowded, so you might want to skip it  unless you’re a big fireworks fan.

You’ll also find the carnival and the usual assortment of vendors, food, and stage entertainment every day.  Reader Amanda recommends the deep fried Oreos. Let me know what you think if you try one!

You can see a (somewhat) complete calendar here.

Parking- Always difficult. Reader Amy suggests carpooling

Other Tips-Downtown merchants will be open and having a sidewalk sale.

As with most events like this, there is plenty of free fun to be had if you can avoid doing lots of rides and food (Good luck with that)! In all seriousness, here at the SFM house, we typically eat something junky enough to be treat like before or after we go to community events and try to save our money for a few special things.

If you’ve got other great tips, please leave ’em!
