One of the most popular questions I get is about discounts to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.
Frankly, they’re pretty hard to come by, and I usually recommend investing in an annual pass unless you can take advantage of monthly free days for City of Tacoma residents.
Well, there is one annual half-off deal, and it’s coming up Friday!
The zoo closes early Friday to get ready for their big, black-tie shindig, so you and your family can go to the zoo during the day from 8:30-2PM, for half price!
This amounts to 5 hours of zoo time at half-off the regular rate, which is a pretty great deal if you don’t have a membership. Do note that it will be closed at 2, so don’t try and do this unless you can get an early start and make it worth your while.
I do think the half-off day will probably be crowded, so wear your sunscreen and bring your spirit of adventure! Be sure to see the new baby tiger cub, feed the budgies (I suggest getting there early in the morning before they’re all full!), and pet the stingrays! The keeper talks and the theater production are also excellent, and all of that is free! If you can keep the kids from wanting a camel ride and a bunch of food treats, this would be a pretty affordable day.
What’s your best advice for doing the zoo? I’d love to hear it! You might also want to read my post on 19th Century Family Fun Night which is happening later the same day at zoo neighbor, Fort Nisqually!
