You have just a few more days to check out the Savage Seas exhibit at the Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor.
While the exhibit isn’t huge, the bones Are, and my boys were plenty wowed by them! If you have a dinosaur fan at your house, I’d try to make this one for sure!
Apart from the Savage Seas exhibit, there is lots in the museum that will appeal to kids and grown-ups, even if you’re not interested in the history of Gig Harbor (What??).
What I really love is that every exhibit has Excellent signage, so it’s easy to tell if kids are supposed to touch or keep hands-off. Happily, nearly every exhibit offers something for kids to do. I’ll admit I’m not a fan of the one that lets them play the accordion, Or the one where they get to ring the ship’s bell, but the boys love ’em! Henry’s other favorite is the skein where you can haul in a big catch of salmon (stuffed ones).
Be sure to also check out the outside exhibits-there is an old school house that is great fun for kids, as well as an area where they’re restoring the ship, The Shenandoah.
There is all kinds of crazy construction just beyond the museum right now, but it’s open, and there is ample, free parking.
You might want to extend your downtown Gig Harbor fun with a trolley ride! We didn’t have time to do this, but we saw lots of happy riders, and I bet your kiddos would love it!
Send in a report if you have one! Information on the museum and the exhibit is here. The Savage Seas exhibit closes on the 14th.
