I’m so excited to be able to bring you the scoop on a unique, Northwest event that would be a perfect addition to your South Sound summer bucket list.
It’s the Powell’s Wood Storytelling Festival at the magical PowellsWood Garden.
Long before TV or video games, people were entertained by the power of a good story woven by a masterful speaker. If you’ve ever watched your kids’ faces in the presence of a truly gifted storyteller, you know that there is still magic in this most old-fashioned entertainment.
This year there will be workshops for adults and events for daycare groups on Friday the 26th, with a full day of storytelling for listeners young and old on Saturday the 27th. You’ll be able to choose from lively, world folktales, traditional children’s favorites, and stories just for grown-ups, too (LOVE that)!
The tellers are masters of the art who entertain audiences all over the world. Your pass gets you a full day of tales, and there will also be food and drink on site to purchase.
Of course, you’ll also get a unique opportunity to check out the beautiful gardens. If you’ve been looking to create some special memories this summer, and “Unplug,” the kids, I can’t think of a better outing, and this is really an event that deserves some buzz and support!
Tickets are available at the door, or you can get them online now. A full day pass for the whole family is a very reasonable 20.00. If you know a Federal Way area daycare that would be interested in Free spots for the Friday sessions, you can email mrm@margaretreadmacdonald.com.
I also have one family pass to give away! This will get you and the family entrance Saturday the 27th, with a full day of storytelling events to choose from! How fun is that?
Ready to enter? We’re going to keep this simple
1. For a first, required entry, check ou the PowellsWood Storytelling Festival web site. You might want to watch the video highlights at the bottom to get an idea of what this event is all about. Or, check out the tellers or the schedule for an idea of the fun in store. You can also like PowellsWood on Facebook to see some of the beautiful pics from their gardens (Please remember that I can’t count your fb likes or comments as entries for contests).
Just leave a comment and tell us what you checked out, and what you’re most excited about.

What a neat event! Since I have a 3 year old, I think the lively stories sound right up our alley. And I want to know what the Fairies and Pigs is all about!
This festival looks fantastic. My daughter would love it. The gardens look so pretty and it’s great to see this in a city.
